the claims by the hyperbole
that shouted them from a knoll
saying you must pay a toll
to a meme ridden troll
that likes to play 8bit bole
who's words twist and cajole
and to hang you from a pole
from which you will fall and roll
and land in a barrel of sole
wishing you had sold your soul
because of a cancerous mole
that you cut off and buried in a hole
to keep it from being found by a foal
or to be blown on by a fole
oh you the mighty hyperbole

It's true. I was a big Democracy Now! watcher for some time but I've come to realize how biased they are. Especially regarding BLM and any discussion of Islam that involves critique and the Israel/Palestine issue. What is funny about DN! is that they aren't corporate funded or underwrited. While that is important, they still rely on listener donations. Some they provide a narrative they know their listeners will like and call it "What you won't get from the corporate media."

A huge problem in this country - and from what I can gather, in Europe as well - is political correctness which now functions as a form of thought control and free-speech inhibitor. In terms of how this effects media, some people are less willing to ask questions about a particular issue for fear of asking it somehow implies racism or bigotry.

While I disagree with a lot of Fox News' BS, they at least ask the questions many on the Left don't want to ask. CNN can do this.

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of "The Rubin Report" but there are some good interviews there. This one with Don Lemon is pretty good:

I think it's interesting how a lot of the people who say things about 'political correctness' are actually trying to steer the conversations away from topics they deem uncomfortable. Not saying that's what you're doing here.

that is the whole point from what I can see, instead of facing shit and dealing with it and overcoming it lets just not actually really talk about it, or lets hide behind a safety zone of things that everyone is afraid of actually talking about instead of dealing with the original issue.

Right. "We can't talk about it because it wouldn't be politically correct" usually tends to mean "people might call me on my bullshit so I'll just pout about it"

But now if people do call you on your shit, you can dismiss them as SJWs! (Regardless of their actual politics).

Buuuuuuuut, I actually am not interested in censoring thought either. Let's all be up front with our shit.

we might actually live in a dystopian parody hellscape. 2016, whoever wins, we all lose.

I mean as much as people like to pretend otherwise Trump really does align himself with a big part of the Republican base. the GOP was operating under the assumption that they could simply keep the cattle grazing where they wanted, but there's no doubt that they raised the animals who are fueling Trump's run.

Jwar, if I say something like "But why don't you hear anything about White Lives Matter!? But you can't say that because it wouldn't be politically correct." it's just a conversation ender. So they never hear a response like:of course White Lives Matter -- they're not the ones being shot indiscriminately by the police. Isn't it possible to acknowledge that there are people who have a shitty time of it everywhere without turning it into some melanin-based team sport?

idk how closely you followed the Oregon thing but I was working late for the last couple of days so I had their live stream on in the background. It was the definition of 'half-baked' (to be generous, I'm not sure the oven was ever turned on), but those people threw around the phrase 'political correctness' a fair amount.

I do think people tend to hop on the bandwagon when it suits them (on both sides). See Whirr! etc.

I mean, yes. Shock value is boring, I have no interest in being the "enlightened, progressive" iteration of a bible thumper, either. People should have autonomy to form their own thoughts, feelings, and choices.
