I have the e609, nice mic, haven't tried the e906 yet. Also have a trusty sm57 but don't use it much.....

I use a h4n for field and practice recording, works great / sounds good / and is extremely easy to use.

If your just recording guitar its a great mic like I said. Even better on drum toms.

theavondon wrote:I actually really like e609s on bass. But, I usually have like...five mics and a DI when recording. So...eh?

Well that's the thing, the e609 has amazing mid range reproduction but its extremely lacking in the low end (to cut down on proximity effect due to the way they designed the mic to sit against the grill cloth), and the high end reproduction is okay but not as good IMO as something based on the sm57 style of dynamic. If used in conjunction with a good low end reproduction mic and a good condenser its a great mic on bass for capturing the mid range detail.

That's the way to go if possible imo. MOAR mics always good.

hahaha tis true, that's the josh Homme mentality!

I used a LP pickguard mount that I bent into a U shape and then bolted onto the shell, then I bolted a tom drum mount onto that with one bolt so it can swivel as necessary to get better angles while on a stand.

I have pick guard, need a tom mount, thats a great solution. maybe I'll canabilize some more of the broken drumset I have Thanks for the help!

i generally use a cheap large body condensor tho for guitars. Combine it with an e906 to fill out the sound. Just have not had time for more recording

No problem broham! I'm sure there's dozens of different ways you could make a mount, just need to keep your eyes open to see what you can find. I chose a tom mount because it clamped securely and would work with a cymbal stand (of which i have like 4 or 5 old ones just laying around).

A tom mount sounds solid enough. Should be pretty easy to make.

I have the H2n that I used recently for recording rough demos of songs I am working on. It rules to say the least.

Is anyone using an iPhone to record loud practice sessions with any success? If so, any good apps or external mics?

I've used mine to record loud practices and it sucks. If you lay it down it can cut out when vibrations or DB get to high. I would look into mics to plug into it instead of the internal for sure

Can also back the zoom recorders. We demo everything on them.
I also record shows of friends and the like. They turn out fairly alright.

I have recorded video of practices with both my amps at full volume. It was a rather large area we practiced in at the time and it wasn't close to the amps. Needless to say, it's not that great. It gets the job done if that is all you have but it can sound like shit if you're in a small space playing at full volume with 100 watters.

The iPhone of one bandmate seems to work better than all the different Android phones the others have, but it still sounds shit. The Zoom H1 I bought recently seems to work a lot better and it's only 98euros :)
I guess the more expensive models will be even more awesome!
