I thought this was called an Ampeg.

If you REALLY, REALLY like the VT Bass and like seemingly everyone else on Talkbass can't lift more than 23 pounds, it's a good choice. It's also convenient not having to maintain tubes and stuff. I guess.
But that price is crazy. I would rather buy or save up a little more for the real thing.

I'm on board with this sentiment.

Yah, even though I 'd probably need help lifting it I'd rather have a real SVT, or an Ampeg travler, kinda like an Ampeg version of the Bassman. Tech 21's Namm booth should be cool. It will be intresting to see if tehy start mking cabinets too, those could be kinda cool.

I met a bunch of TB dudes at NAMM. All were very cool, even one who I used to get into political arguments with in the Lobby.
I waltzed by the Tech 21 booth at one point. The amp sounded like an imitation Ampeg, so mission accomplished I suppose.
HOLY FUCK I WANT A MARLEAUX BASS but there's no way I can justify 5 large on one bass. I'm just not that good.

I think Marleaux are the first instrument at that price level I've played where I thought "yep, this is completely worth it" although I still can't afford it. His attention to detail is staggeringly good. Jebus fucking christ. Plus he's a cool guy, which counts a pantload when it comes to spending this type of money. I could never buy a Ken Smith, even though they are great instruments, simply because he's a prick.
So I put my Rickenbacker up for sale, for a decent price of $1,650 shipped. If you know where to shop, you can find a new one for that price. But usually not. Considering mine is in like-new condition, it's a pretty okay deal.
Some dude talked me down to $1,600 and at first I said "nah" but then decided "screw it" because I just kerchunked $1,000 down on a new Bordwell (best basses ever!).
So I said "okay dude, you win, $1,600 and she's yours."
"Where is the bass shipping from?"
(I use a funny/comical location on my profile sure, but my feedback is 71 that's SEVENTY gOD DAMN ONE with 100% feedback)
Once that hurdle is cleared, onto the next:
"Do you have the warranty card intact?"
(No, I filled that out 4 months ago when I bought the bass, and it's not transferable anyhow)
"Thanks I'll pass."

Stupid eBay, was just browsing the bass amps and this thing jumps out at me for easily $250 under market (350 if you count the headcase). I had one of these about 2 years ago (with two Mesa PH112 cabs) and think it is probably the best sounding rig I've played through. Not sure why I sold it in the first place and playing this at rehearsal just confirms the awesomeness. The Mesa hits like a fucking hammer through that 210. The headcase on the mesa is kinda ridiculous. While it looks cool, it adds an extra 10 pounds! I'm just glad I didn't pay extra for it. This should be tonight's gig rig. This will be our first "real" gig as a three piece after losing our lead guitarist and gigging with substitutes and/or flakes for the last 9 months.
