lol. that. is a LOT of loopy space.

moof. playing the Modular on the Spot in LA this Sunday, thought i might have to wait till next month because RAINS, but they moved it to a bicycle shop/cafe/art spot they used last month.

i'm about 82% ready, spending hours tonight to iron out rough spots.

because i plan POORLY, i'll be renting a car then after work tomorrow run through set a time or two, pack up, crash the FUCK out, get up at 5 am Sunday and drive the 6 hours to LA, crash in the car an hour or two, be there by 2 for setup, do noises, listen to noises, hangout out with some LA Friendos, drive home about 10 or 11 that night.

because SMART.

I'm never sure about what I'm playing out. Overly self critical. Tend to think parts I've heard a bajillion times are boring. But, unless something's stupid bad I tend to leave it. I instead focus on little details like making sure the stupid thing doesn't skip a beat or have an out of place note I want. I leave some areas for weirdness and unpredictability, but I end up spending as much time as possible focusing on the performance aspect rather than worrying about the overall thing when I'm a day or two out. Seems to work for me?

jia. i mean. i don't think i've ever played anything live that i thought was THE BEST EVER. could always be fixed.

just sat down last night and most of it was.... ugh. not good. main problem is i'm tryibg to force the SMR in and i don't have enough time in/it set up properly for how i would use it right now. actually pulled that for a few more oscs and the DU-RDT, going have about 3 hours to iron out ideas before i crash tonught. should be solid.

lol. as solid as it ever is i guess.

and yeah. i've trued super structured, playing 2 songs into each sets with modular, but what i like the most is 2 or 3 solid pieces with about 3 variations each, then an idea of how i want to ramble noisily between them?

To be fair, I've only ever had 15 minutes to fill. Though, I'd love to be able to pull off an hour of endless techno. Would be a lot of fun to make that kind of music for parties.

Show last night was super good - got a pretty decent recording that I'll post after giving it a little EQ love. Got another gig in a couple hours so hopefully I'll have two sets to post next week! Last night's show was super dense drone featuring DPO and Telharmonic. Today's set is more zen-like rings/morphagene/marbles stuff.

Nerds I need a request. I have 4HP to fill. I'd like a Dual VCA that is attuneable by CV. What should I be looking for?

two of these: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/2hp-vca

or one of these:

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/doepfer-a-132-1

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/malekko-h ... dustry-vca

unless you want weirder/fancier

Good picks, I'll also throw this in there as a suggestion:

Sadly the main mixer at MOTS was a bit fucked so I couldn't get a live set recording, the control room outs were messed up. I'll post Saturday's show up somewhere later this week!

annnnnd my MotS got cancelled. lol. was awesome to hangout with the NoiseEng folks, but was at theirs when i got the notification that it was cancelled because of rain.

soooooo.... long drive out there, fun times hanging out with Kris and Stefan (they are AWESOME), got to play with loots (that CIPppppppp), see some OTHER things, chabbled with Kris forever. VERY good stuff.

but then a long drive home. and CRASHINGS. they were apologetic as butts, not their fault, shizz happens, and offered me a spot on another month that works.

Any of you guys tried the Bizmuth Signal Router thing?

Image

It looks like you could do some wicked shit with it. I mean, trigger drums by spinning the wheel, man.

I used to do that trick on an old Novation MIDI controller hooked to a Nord Modular. Spin the wheel and a clatter of drum comes out.

Plus probably a ton of other interesting use cases I'm not smart enough to think of.

I'd be lying if I said I understood that module. It's very cool, though. The two videos I've seen of it in action make it seem very unique. Not sure where to even buy it, tbh. PCA lists it as available for pre-order but Buzmuth's website doesn't list anything for a USA distributor.
