then you'd end up with a lower tuning or lower tension, right?

What's the relationship between tension and scale length? Should longer instruments have a higher tension?

larger gauge = higher tension for lower tunings. For longer scale you can use lower gauge for higher tunings. The trick is to get it to where you aren't to flobby but can still comfortably manipulate the strings. I do a lot of vibrato and bends so I like it a little looser. I also play a 12 in C standard so that adds to the felt resistance of the strings.

Hmm...I don't, but we could probably find something that would work on craiglist for cheap. How small of shells are we talking?

Anyone have any experiences with Eminence Wizards? I've been contemplating pairing my Swamp Thangs up with some.

I am with this course of action!

Hey Darren, do you guys get orders of speakers in? I used 4 of the cardboard rings they put around the magnets during shipping on the one I posted above, I just cut them to fit inside each other then hot glued them into a singular unit.

small Speakers are 2 7/8 square so these would be very compact. I'm thinking the bose speakers should be high quality enough where it would still work well. the glued heavy cardboard Idea might work well.

That is BADASS. I love simple ingenuity like that. Being free only makes me love it more! Soldano (I only built foot switches and cut pot shafts there for a few weeks to help pay for my SLO) gets Legends by the palette. I could certainly come by many of those cardboard rings by just walking over there and asking.

What size is that little speaker?

Andrew wrote:Secondly, that's why I get burnt out of Stoner Doom - it's kind of a thing now when it was/is a pretty small community and has been getting more light recently. The problem is, Stoner Doom is pretty easy to write and will pretty much always sound good when you're playing the same Phrygian Scale as everyone else. Shame, like everyone else it's the only thing I can do.

Up here Doom is still kind of a thing but it's getting a little played out. Stoner rock is a total step child though. Even my bandmates don't like it when I toss around the term stoner rock in reference to our band. But since I idolize the Fu and live on reefers I like the term and always have. Plus it's fun to say it in front of the local hipster intelligentsia and watch them make the gas-face. And why do they make the gas-face? If you ask they'll tell. Stoner rock is played out, it's too simple and it all sounds the same. So then what is hip? Noise rock. What is noise rock? Well that's simple! It's doing your best Jesus Lizard and/or Shellac impression. At least around here. So just remember to derive from the right source and you can always stay hip!

But with this thing where you say it's "easy to write" I take issue. A friendly issue! But an issue. It is very easy to go buy the gear and step on the fuzz and get a nice tone. It's easy to find fancy dudes who find it 'easy' to play this style. It's easy to find some horseshit singer that's willing. It is NOT easy to write a song as simple as it needs to be to let that sweet tone breathe yet still keep people interested. Stoner rock and doom are the most boring musics on the planet when wielded incorrectly and as much as I like both when done right, in my opinion they are most often done way wrong. And it's because the heavy sound is easy but the heavy song is difficult.

Also thanks for that little lesson vid. I'm the world's biggest simpleton so I always like to see what people do.

I could have been worded it differently. But yeah, I agree.

Jesus guys, 5 new pages overnight.

Heavy cardboard would be easy to get ahold of. There's a shitload here at work...what size should I look for?

I know right?!? I had the speaker sitting around forever as well as the mounting parts I had just always been short on a shell. I was home one weekend, got a little "influenced" came inside and saw the speaker rings sitting there in my workbench and the sparks of intuition just hit me. an hour later I had a working sub-kick on the first go! :yay: Dude, if you can swing by soldano and pick up some of those rings that most likely get recycled or tossed out anyways thats a freebie way to get her done!

Mine is a 4" speaker out of a computer speaker component system Sub.
