Dude no way. Preamp tube distortion sucks balls. In fact I'll go so far as to say that preamp tubes are worthless, gay, and lying. I'd much rather have a solid state preamp and tube power amp any day of the week over the usual hybrid single 12AX7 OMG TUBE SOUND FROM ONE TINY BULB marketing crap.
That's why I like <200 watt tube heads, they are much easier to get the power section screaming without going completely deaf.

As a toobnoob I thought I had been misled. I'm glad I have not been mislead.

I disagree. Saying ANY sound is "worthless" is pretty bullshit of a thing to say. EVERY sound has a use. The sound of saturated preamp tubes is very different from the sound of saturated power tubes. The "T00bZ" sound that everyone wants and that every overdrive pedal is supposedly based on IS the sound of overdriven power tubes. Overdriven preamp tubes have a much more buzzy and harsh sound than the nice rounded, compressed sound of overdriven power tubes. But that doesn't mean that they're useless. That sound is certainly useful in some contexts. Some people actually like that sound. The DHA overdrive pedals, and the EHX English Muff'n are based on that sound, and a lot of people like those pedals.

I'm agree to a point. I haven't heard a tube pre built in to an amp that I thought was worth a darn yet. I have heard some cool tube pre racks and pedals that are pretty cool.
I also don't think fuzz or OD pedals sound bad going into an SS head, I mean I did it for two years without complaint, but I've been running this 100 watt Marshal Super Lead clone for the last 3 months and I don't want to go back to an SS amp. Would I be fine if I had to use a Little Mark or Mesa M6 again?..sure, but I'd rather not if I can help it. Seriously, the first time I heard my Source Audio Multiwave Distortion through the tube rig, I almost couldn't believe it was the same pedal I'd been using for the past 10 months.
I push my preamp HARD but there is no way I could with my power amp 300 watts I would go deaf and maybe blow a speaker. no harsh highs in my sound mellow highs and huge lows all the way

Preamp distortion depends on a lot of different things. One being plate voltage. Sure you can run a 12AX7 with 9-24 volts on the plates, but you will never get that nice saturated sound that comes from running them at 300v.
Also sag; this is where the tube draws more current causing the voltage to drop resulting in sweet natural compression.
Now Hybrids normally don’t run at tube voltages, also there is no sag. As you push them. Resulting in a more unnatural sound..
I never liked all those master volume channel switching monsters with a ss rectifier. They just don’t breath right.

Ok I tink this makes sense. Is this the reason I hate the tinny sound of the "dirty" channel on my bassman But when I boost the shit out of the clean channel its all warm and growly?

Get it, it sounds like most P-pickups but it's humbucking! Ans for like $80 or something it couldn't be that bad.
