So much this!
I use a SM57 and an Audio-Technica MB-2K for my Snaredrums, and they are both really cool mics. The 57 tops the MB-2K, so the Audio technica is "only" on the sidesnare, but is very cool for toms (but too big for my purposes, so I use some small clip-on mics, they sound cool too). For toms I recommend Shure PG56s. They are very cool sounding and you can accidentally hit them as often as you want, they won't break. Also, the new Samson Q-Tom mics sound pretty good, and they are cheap.. but I've never used them.

neat! thanks guys! the 802-VLZ3 might be what i want on the mixer side.
annnnnnnd actually i'm being kinda stupid. i have a Motu8Pre i was going to use as the audio interface. i should just run each into there and use the main outs into the mixer that goes to the power amp for the PA. durp. or go main outs -> power amp bypassing the mixer altogether. DURP.

I've been seriously wanting a drum set. Drum Worskhop or Slingerland.

As someone who has spent a long time in the online drum community, I can tell you a few things:
1. DW's are INSANELY overpriced, mainly because of the name. There are many Pearl or Yamaha sets which give you more bang for the buck. Yes, they can do custom orders and stuff but so does everyone else now. Hell, even Mapex offers a 30-day custom kit program with a variety of shell sizes and combinations for a reasonable price. Are you planning on buying used?
2. DW's aren't bad, if that's how point 1 came across; it's just that for the price you would spend on it, you could get a much "better" drumset (either more shells or more hardware). Also, which series were you interested in? Their Jazz and Classics lines are better than some of their newer pure Maple or Birch lines.
3. Unless you're getting an old Slingerlands kit, I'd avoid the company as a whole. They certainly don't have a glowing reputation at some of the drum forums I still frequent.
