If the body is truly from a Spartan (which the walnut back/sides indicate is very likely true) this is one of the biggest brass balls hacks you'll likely see - the neck, the cutaway - I'm guessing there was a wreck out on the pike and somebody yanked this out smashed and smoldering before the mad doctor on the hill got his hands on it.
