If you want to dig into Pd, I highly recommend joining the Pure Data facebook group. Lots of good discussion in there. It's honestly one of the only reasons I haven't ditched fb yet.

never touched pd, though I've been curious for years. and I'm familiar enough with the concept of node based editing through reaktor, nord modular, real modulars. it's a bit more mathematical from what I can see. I learn best opening up existing examples and playing around with stuff.
but even out of the box + downloaded patches, yowza!

I put up several things on CL today in the hopes of making a couple quick sales/justifying buying one of these
But for fucks sake I've already gotta put a preorder in for a Tonal Recall on Friday. Ugh.

Are there any small midi controllers that have the multi fx style two switches and a rocker layout? Because I can see myself integrating the organelle right onto my board.

Is this MIDI over USB only or is there a 5 pin DIN jack somewhere and I just don't see it?
Edit: answer! It has a USB host connector so a USB to MIDI cable will work...
I got some life choices to make now...

Oh my sweet summer child. I'm so sorry for the gas that's about to be unleashed on to you.
I'm sorry:

Also, Knobs, please don't demo an OP-1

Found another one and hit it. Lets see if the purchase actually goes through. They did say "2 in stock" at that moment.

I was one of the early OP-1 adopters. First batch of 500 actually. It was fun for a year, but I found myself just not meshing with it. I felt it did so many things, but none of the things it did were fleshed out enough for me. It has something like 10 synth engines which is incredible (how many keyboards can boast that), but I saw myself wanting more out of them. None of them even had a proper filter (you had the filter effect that was added later to the main mixer). So now it's on semi-permanent loan to a friend who uses it better than I did.
The fact that the Organelle is "visual" open-source is extremely enticing to me! I want to dig in and tweak stuff, customize patches, make them super optimized for what I want.
Only critisism I have is based on photos the OLED display doesn't seem to have protection on it. We'll see.

No OP-1 plans.
But that could change in a ruthless heartbeat.
To throw in my two cents, I don't think they are all that similar -- except both are quite unlike anything else.
Including each other.
The OP-1 is a little studio / workstation, and an extreme case of the old workaround device.
It can do just about anything, but you have to be crafty.
The Organelle on the other hand is a single program amoeba.
You run one patch at a time, but that patch can be absolutely anything.
I got both at about the same time for very different reasons.
Looking forward to chatting about Pure Data with you guys.

I guess this is both true and it calmed me down. I bought the OP-1 to be able to make music without my computer, and that's what I love about it. Thanks Knobs, you have my limitless admiration again

I've spend so much time making entire giant patches in Audulus, so Pure Data is a logical step for me. I've been meaning to jump into it for ages now, but my time has been so limited as of late.
