thanksorz and pre-emptive hugz.
Hmm, I've never used the Motu, but I don't see why it would be a problem. It says it's compatible. I'm just using a straight mixer along with the Behringer USB audio thingy for our audio recording, and then Midi solutions splitters and mergers for all the MIDI devices, and we use Cubase to mix the audio and also control all the MIDI. It's kinda a bitch to get it all set up, but once you get it set up, it works awesome.

yah. i've had problems with younger versions of Cubase using more than a single L/R input, i'll just hook it up and give it a runthrough when i get home.
thanks!

oof. i'm an idiot some times. spent about an hour trying to get it to arm more than 2 tracks, finally figured out that the LE part od Cubase LE 6 i'm using means only 2 tracks at a time. did the upgrade (was only $50 for a full unlocked upgrade from LE. not bad at all.), but now it won't let me make any but the 1st 2 inputs on the Pre8 active. gotta get to practice so i'll hit up tech support later.
URF.

Possible stupid question - is there such a thing as an expression off/on switch, preferably a momentary switch? I've been having LOADS of fun with the delays in my M5 and would like to be able to trigger the delay for a few seconds in a particular song (the effect would be on but not active until I hit the switch). I can use my VP Jr to do this, but it usually also produces the delay's 'wind-up' noise; a momentary off/on would be perfect here...I think...

There are boxes with a momentary switch that you can plug FX into the loop..... is that kinda what you mean?
Like to step and hold for delay, volume swellies, etc then let go and it's bypassed?

i think he wants a dub (heh heh) kind of thing where you can plug a box into the expression port with a momentary soft switch.

Pretty much this. The second switch in my 'Stache is a momentary for the oscillation, and I'd like something that works the same way. It doesn't have to run out of the exp port necessarily, but I can't see how it'd work anywhere else; I could use an A/B box with it and the exp pedal, maybe.
It just occurred to me that this sorta sounds like a momentary looper. -edit- and no sooner that I type it, excane's on it. Cool!

Check out loop-master's offerings
http://www.loop-master.com/index.phpYou can put the M5 in a momentary pedal and it's only active when you press and hold the footswitch

That's it right there. Thanks!
I've been talking w/Dan@t1m about an etched looper anyway...I should ask if he could do one channel as a normal looper (GS > BDPG) and the other as a momentary.

This'll be my first time with one. I'm a looper virgin. Be kind.

I've only ever used simple loopers like the Headrush. They are fun, but I can't see myself using one live. Waaaaaaaay to much of a margin for error. I suppose with practice...

So, I'm a little bit ashamed to admit that I have something of a gear dilemma, but it's going to sound really shallow and dumb.
So I had practice last night, and got to finally A/B my Carvin 410 and my Avatar 212 with my full band rig at full volume. And, honestly, the 410 just sounded BETTER. It was much more full-range, with more low bass and also more crisp highs. The Avatar sounded muddy and like it had a blanket over it. Maybe this is because I like my bass to have more highp-mids and highs than most bassists. And when I tried cranking the tweeter all the way up on the Avatar to get some highs back, it sounded farty, like it couldn't handle the high-end.
So case closed, right? Just sell the Avatar and keep the 410. But for some reason, the idea of playing a Bugera amp through a Carvin cab just makes me feel like I'm gonnna look like fucking amateur hour up there on stage. I know this is totally illogical and I should just say fuck it and play what sounds good, but a little bit of my inner gear snob is starting to feel like there's something wrong with ME for liking the "shitty" equipment.

Buy some vintage looking grill cloth and put it over the carvin's metal grill
