I prefer to make my own synthchain. Fuzz -> Filter, octaves optional. Otherwise it's a multi-effect and multi-effects blow.

Fuzz -> filter sounds cool, but I never really heard a combo that really sounded like a synthesizer. Especially since 99% of filter pedals you can get are envelope filters, and most synths have their filters follow a set ADSR. The BMS and the OS are the only pedals I know of that offer that sort of filter sweep.

I .... just ... hate envelope filters. It sounds so cheesy to me. Makes every bassline sound like a porno soundtrack. Of course, saying that over at Talkbass would get me shunned.

Nah, I totally agree with you bcbc. I thought getting a really expensive filter would change my opinion...nope.

Yeah, Behndy let me borrow his Xerograph for a while. It sounds good for manual sweeping, but the envelope mode is still just totally porn soundtrack. Not my bag.

Based on seeing all the Oxide > Xero setups on various boards, I've been messing with running my 'Stache into the various 'filters' in my M5...sidestepping the fact that the M5 doesn't really do filters all that well, I don't get the attraction. It's an interesting noiz for a few minutes, but after awhile...dunno...

Yeah. I didn't dig the Xero D much. Not a knock on it. It's an amazing filter....goes back to what I said earlier about not having found ANY filters or synths that I like.

Behndy's vid of the Brain Freeze has my interest, though. That's about the only way I could use a filter....manual sweeps a la the Faye Sing.

I swear, Ben's got some kinda Special Noiz Magic that lets him produce sounds that are just unavailable to the rest of us, and I'm not just talking about his boards here either.

No, man. I agree. 80% of the pedals I've gone through, I bought because of his demo.....about 37% of those I actually got to recreate the sounds I fell in love with on the demo.....the other 63%....I never figure out how the fuck he's doing it. Even when I buy the damn things straight from him.

GUYYYSSS. QUIT IT.

urm... i HATE envelope triggers that do the baw chickah wah bullshit. what... what is that FOR? who does that?

i DO like having a smaller range set on the Xero on envelop filter and doing a more synthy opening/closing thing by how hard you're playing. it gets SUPER finicky with the sensitivity though. i'd usually just rather stand by my board and use the expeddely.

pho sho. Manual > Envelope. i've not played with many Non Actual Synth/Soft Synth ASDR filters. that sounds hellza hawt. DON'T MAKE ME WANT AN OS YOU BAD BAD MAN CHIEFY.

DOD FX25 all day.

Any filter more complicated than that makes my head spin.

Well, to be fair, the BMS isn't full ADSR, it's basically just a AD, and the OS is full ADSR, but again, it's a bitch to program. I think it would be really cool if someone were to come out with a programmable ADSR filter pedal that's just the filter. I don't know if it would sell a lot or not, but I'D buy one.
