Re: The Video Game thread
Yes... honestly, I prefer playing games with just a basic controller. I love Wii Sports Golf, but that's really the only thing I really enjoyed about the motion control. You'd think that games like Metroid Prime would be improved with motion control, but I just don't dig it. Like I said, it is ultimately less immersive. I don't want realistic games... I want video game fantasy.
Yes, I've been a Nintendo kid since I got a NES in 1987... but I'm not afraid to say that home video games peaked with the Nintendo 64, and everything since then has been merely graphical/sound improvements.
The only "new" thing that can be done for video games is virtual reality.
That being said, I'm sure I'll get a Wii U.

You know you can use a classic controller with the Wii right? And, you'll be able to with the Wii U also. I have one. It's like an updated SNES controller. It looks like this:

or the classic pro which is kinda like a Playstation/SNES hybrid looking conroller:

Yes, but unless I'm mistaken, I wouldn't be able to play something like Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3 with the Classic or Classic Pro.
I owned the Classic for a little while but found it uncomfortable. I guess I'd try out the Classic Pro, but I think I'll just wait a bit for the Wii U.
Here's an interesting tidbit that I'm finding:
The Wii U only supports one tablet controller at a time. That's disappointing. I usually only play games by myself, but as a whole, that's a pretty significant setback to the system if only one can be utilized while the other suckers you're playing with have to use the Wii-motes.

I'm with you bruddah. I feel for the most part, Nintendo's taken a step back content wise and are more dependent on the motion control gimmick.
Hopefully whatever comes after the Wii U brings back some of the old glory. I'm totally plunking down for a PS3 at some point though. Seems to be the only console left that's actually delivering on the fantasy. And you can has classic nintedo on it anyways...

Re: The Video Game thread
I just found out that the new Zelda REQUIRES motion control. It isn't an optional mode or setting. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I'm pissed.
I'm actually very pissed. The motion thing is literally the only thing they could have done to make me not enjoy this game. I even enjoyed Twilight Princess, despite it being disappointingly easy.

Yes, Skyward Sword has specific puzzles in it that are built around the Wii MotionPlus. I don't mind. Zelda is Zelda.
But I am confused... are you saying that you were able to play these games with a regular controller? Or did you play through the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess? That's something I didn't consider. Maybe I'll do that with my old Wavebird.
Regarding the WiiU and the PS3... I suppose I could go for the PS3 as well... it's just missing the shit I loved as a kid and still love... Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. And as far as "old glory"... I don't think anything can top the SNES. It took the brilliance of the original Nintendo and knocked it up a notch... BAM. Elzar aside, the Wii U could even be considered to be the SNES to the Wii's NES.
The ONLY thing that bugs me is that I'll probably have to get a 1080p TV now, while my 720p LG will only be a year and half old. Oh well.
I also wonder about all the Virtual Console games I have on my Wii... I hope that those can be automatically transferred to the in-console memory of the Wii U.

I bought the GC version of Twilight Princess and played that through the Wii using a GC controller. Better camera controls, and no motion junk.

I don't mind the implementation of motion control in Zelda so much. It's there more to add to certain parts of the game rather than support it. Sort of seems like a logical progression from the rumble pack for fishing in OoT.
Ahh, but is it? One of the major selling points for me is that in some ways it's very much like a computer, so I think you can enjoy right up to gamecube if you use certain channels...and after that the only thing I feel I've missed out on is Super Smash, so it seems like the best option.
I don't think you'll have to. The graphics should still look pretty good in 720...

So far it looks like I'm going to have to buy a 3DS, a Wii U, and a PS3.

Yeah. It's a cool game. Pretty short though. I beat it the day after I bought it.

For me, it's not so much about finishing the game and more about how you play it...trying for all the combo moves and junk to get a higher score than the last time.

I don't do guides. Twilight Princess was actually my least favourite. It was too easy.
Either way, I decided I'm going to just play through them in order.
