I suspect it's been overstated for a long, long, long time.
...
ILF's demographic shifts young and left-wing even by musician standards so what we see here is even less representative of the broader community.
Some of it may be a very vocal minor minor minority, but I want to believe there's a sane non-screaming portion of the group that are seeing hey- It might be okay. You know what, I might not be as much of a basket case as I thought. I might be able to live a normal life without lying to myself or my friends/family. I want to believe there's chill rational folk from all walks of religion and politics that are breathing a sigh of relief that they aren't the big evil, the freaks, the walking targets because they don't "fit" like others expect them to.
The logistics and nomenclature and what that
looks like and all of the real world implications, now that's a mess I don't want to think about.

but trying to keep all the appropriate words sorted makes me feel like an old man yelling at kids.
GET OFF MY LAWN WITH YOUR NEWFANGLED THREE DEE PRINTED HOOTIE HOOS AND YOUR RECYCLED HOT DOG PEENS.
soooooo..... respectfully, if someone is male to female transgender, one would refer to them as her? and the reserse as he?
would never want to be a butthole about that.
Basically, whatever the person asks. At my college it has become the norm to introduce yourself on the first day of class and list your pronouns "hi i'm garrett, i use he/him/his". Some people use they/them, which seems awkward at first but you get used to it when you hear it a lot.
so, again, totes not trying to be a dick. i'm abouts to be 40 and most of my friends are around the same age, so college/huge groups of new people to meet constantly was a bit ago for me.
is it that prevalent an issue? i always got the feel that some of the gender issue stuff all over tumblr is somewhat akin to how every grrL i knew in high school was bisexual to be edgy, when closer to 5% had ever or ever planned to be with another layday. is there a huge chunk of our population that feels like they are not the traditional definition of male or female?
what is they used for?
annnnnd i am NOT confusing prevalent with important. of COURSE it's an important issue. the amount of violence, self inflected and from outside sources, people still are exposed to over gender, race, sexual prefence, it's disgusting and horrible. understanding and having open discussions, GOOD.
it is without a doubt the largest and most prevalent social issue that i see discussed on a daily basis when im at school. at liberal arts colleges in general, it's a hotbed topic. there is a ton of violence against trans* people, as well as pretty staggering employee discrimination if you do a few searches. definitely something I knew nothing about before attending a small liberal arts school in portland, ore.
lots of discussion of the "gender binary" and "gender is a social construct," stuff like that. there is a lot of good scholarship about it. in my experience there is a fair amount of alienating allies, however, which gets to me.

That is a disgustingly apt depiction of the disparity between MtF and FtM genital surgery.

I didn't even notice. I just read it as harmless old guy tantrum.

You're pretty much in the hotbed of that movement though - I'm not hearing the same from friends and children of friends at public institutions across the Midwest or the South, for instance.
l
Portland is the king (or queen, or gender-neutral ruler) of the transgender discussion it seems.

interesting. yeah, i'm not in school, my work and social circles are relatively stable, so i am way more aware of online discussions than what humans talk about in meat space.
but fuck yeah if more talk helps even one person feel like they're less of a freak.

of course. and i'm not trying to disparage it's importance at all. that's a horrific thing.

EXACTLY. i used to feel bad for Devi, because she seems so troubled and destructive. her gender stuff is none of my business and i don't care even a little about it.
she lies and steals from people and attacks other good people. she's a BUTT.
and not one of those Fun Butts.

Reading this thread backwards is actually easier it seems.
This whole situation is absolute crazy but here is the situation as far as I think i know, and please do correct me otherwise:
1) Devi built pedals very good fuzz pedals back in the day under the name Effector 13 and then under Devi Ever
2) Devi expanded this by creating a cartridge type hot swappable fuzz pedal contraption BUT asked for money via a crowd funding site to help build it
3) Devi got the project funded (tens of thousands of $ )
4) Devi at some point realised she either didn't ask for enough money or squandered the money received not on building fuzz?
5) The Fuzz Cartridge contraption was never made and the rest of the peoples money was donated to a charity (something regarding feminism????)
6) People asked for refunds but not everyone got them (likely due to the crazy ass donation made of other peoples money to charity?)
7) Devi decides to get out of the pedal business
8) Devi sells the rights to Dwarfcraft including the naming rights, this is in return for royalties I assume for subsequent pedals sold using the Devi Ever brand name and existing circuits created by her
9) Devi disappears from the world of the pedals and into the world of creating games
10) Devi decides that creating games is not cool any more/financially viable/boring etc etc???
11) Devi makes a come back and re-creates Effector 13 realising that pedals really were where what she wants to do.
12) This does not sit well with the current holders of the Devi Ever name nor with some members of the pedal building community
13) This thread was born out of point 12 above. Nobody knows exactly how this is going to play out and lots of popcorn pictures were posted
14) Ensue a long "discussion" and other pointless posts in a "Ask me anything" thread created by Devi where only some answers were actually given, Devi created multiple accounts and verbally abused other forum members and had a conversation with herself, while the rest of the thread was random pictures of Billy Corgan, porn, cats, dogs etc
15) Devi Ever once again is asking people to help her with money (although this time for take out pizza and other food stuffs) but yet posts as status saying she is high on legal pot cookies.
16) This situation spreads mainly to Facebook where Devi continues to sledge Fuzzhugger and Dwarfcraft. One post mentions "how absolutely worthless I think Devi Ever FX and Dwarfcraft Devices are.") and another "I'm drunk, ask me anything about what shit human beings FuzzHugger Effects, Dwarfcraft Devices, and devi ever : fx are." Also claiming that royalties have not been paid by Dwarfcraft and that legal advice is being sought to get her contact terminated. Devi links to this very thread and states that the forum are "circle jerking about how much they hate me"
17) During the course of the above Tom Dalton (Fuzzhugger) Aen and his wife (Dwarfcraft / Devi Ever fx) have been replying where needed to comments and accusations while also stating their own opinions where needed in response. Although at no point have they discredited Devi to the point that she has them or pulled this situation onto social media or into the spotlight so to speak. At least not that I can see
18) I create a cut down version of the situation for people to read
My view?
I have had nothing but fucking fantastic service from Dwarfcraft Devi Ever FX (Louise and Ben) professional and friendly and also going that extra bit further for me, they are awesome. They make amazing guitar pedals that sound the nuts and that's that.
Miss Devi Ever can make what ever the hell she wants as long as it doesn't (from a legal contractual standpoint) impact Dwarfcraft/Deviever FX. With the ideal situation of that all this pointless, stupid , idiotic bat shit crazy trolling stops and we can all go about loving fuzz and leaving others be.
Im tired of this situation, im tired of all the crazy, im tired of people's names being dragged through the mud. Do I wish this whole thing never occurred? Yes . Do I wish that we could all be friends and be happy? Yes. Well its not going to happen but lets leave the troll under bridge to stamp , stomp and be angry and go play further down the river where we wont disturb it.
Now im going for a Mc Donalds before I miss breakfast.

Devi claims that said donation came entirely from income she'd made game developing, and is thus a wholly separate situation.

Puppystomper, that other account, is apparently an Australian dude named Jason, whom you can hear doing similar best friend backup in that uncomfortable Notch Twitter fiasco vid someone posted a bit ago ("Amber Coal loses her shit").
Yup, this whole thing is a sad trainwreck, and I wish I weren't so fascinated by it. Hugs and good luck to anyone who's been fucked over/hurt by Devi in any way, and/or has to struggle with mental illness in themselves, family, friends etc.

She also attempted to crowdfund her Sex Reassignment Surgery before she'd publicly given up on the Console, I believe. Not trying to witchhunt here, just adding something to the timeline.

What's sad about the Console thing, and I said this from the beginning, is it's a terrible idea. Not the idea itself but the implementation of the idea. Now if you did modules instead of cartridges like Roy from Greenhouse is doing and Peter from VFE is going to be doing, then it's a good idea. But neither one of them used a Kickstarter to fund it. See that's why I don't like kickstarter and will NEVER support one. I don't care if you're my best friend, I'm not giving you shit for an idea. Fuck that.
Now there's others ones out there that hold you responsible for not giving your rewards that are very good. Kickstarter just sucks IMO. To me it's a way of stealing money and getting away with it. From the top down. Sure some people use them right but most probably don't. A lot of failed projects out there. Whoops. Spent the money, it didn't work out. I'm sure Devi is not alone in that regard. She is just in our focus because it affected so many people in the gear world. Which is crazy because we all knew this would happen and yet people still invested.
I have a kind heart, or I like to thank I do. I have forgiveness for the wrongs that have been committed against me, but at the same time I'm very mindful. Devi has never directly hurt me other then arguing with me or telling me to fuck off (in more words obviously). She's very sick. She's not alone though. There's a lot of this type of sickness in the community. Others just aren't as forward with it.
Ok. I said I'd be done with this thread like 10 posts ago. LOL. Now, I'm done.
Time to refinish some boxes for my friends at Dwarfcraft.
