I'm surprised how much I dig the Jag switches on that Strat... if it were a hardtail I'd be all over that!

The bridge is locked down for detune only, so it's VERY stable, if that helps ease your concerns.

And yeah, the jag switchplate does look classy on a stratocaster. It's in a practical position, too. I'm surprised Fender hasn't done a model or two with that concept. (Have they?)

It's funny, between the blade humbuckers, the jag switches, the bridge, and everything else, it's hardly a strat anymore. It does cover a nice range of tones, though. I can get relatively stratty with positions 2 and 4, which are split neck + middle and split bridge + middle, I think.

There's a nice subtle bit of chime with open strings. Other than that, I think they feel more substantial and stable, and work well with a tremolo. I don't know if there's a whole world of difference otherwise, but it feels nice to have. That's what it comes down to I guess, I like having it on there. Also I never have to worry about it breaking.

Oh, and the compensation is supposed to prevent open chords from being somewhat out of tune, from what I understand.

I'm just used to metal nuts at this point, but they do add a little chime to open notes. If you think about a bone or other material nut, it's made out of something other than metal. So there is a slight difference in open vs fretted notes with anything other than a metal nut. Noticeable? Probably not.

what you are saying makes sense

that since frets are metal (although softer metal)
and nuts are not
open strings do sound different
probably not a noticeable difference because of the metal hardness of the frets
so if you go with harder fret materials a metal nut might be even more necessary

Brass nut on my Electra, I like it. More than other brass nut guitars I've had.

Which makes sense since both my EGC's and Bastin use stainless steel frets. I'm telling you guys once you go stainless steel you never go back

Makes sense.
There are folks on ebay who will fabricate one to your specs for $16 or so, if you ever wanted to try it out.
I think it lends to stuff like out of phase pickups, clangy tones, sterility.. of course that's a combination of many factors, but a brass nut does seem to assist.

I don't believe you can. skullservant/Dirge put it in there, and he's owned at least on EGC guitar. I can't find details about ordering just the pickups, but I know on their Facebook page they put some up for sale sometimes. Right now there are some EGC TB1000 humbuckers for 375.00 each with hardware.
