I need your guys advice on something.
How do I go about leaving a band?
I know that sounds like a pussy-ass question, but I really need help here.
I just hate the direction we're headed in.
The drummer's all about being famous, but I don't want that.
I don't want that, I just want to get out there and play bad ass music.
I don't give a shit about how many people like me and my stuff, I just want to play.
The problem is I am the only doomhound my age out here, if I leave my current band, I will have no place to go.
I don't want my music to hit a wall and go stagnant.
I do have a drummer pal(not the current douchebag) who is incredibly talented though, so we just go two piece.
The band I'm in right now has played a showcase(which I think is fucking stupid as a competition), and we have to play another one sometime soon.
The drummer(can you see my problem) wants to put in at 3 major record labels(I said fuck it, but my opinion doesn't matter)
How do I go about this, I want to let them down gently, but at the same time, I don't.
If that makes sense.
Help me ILF brethren

Play the show, let him do what he wants, and then he'll realize that won't happen. Once his dreams are crushed, he'll be in the same boat as you.

Or, shit, just let him do all the work, and maybe you'll become famous!

I rather be unknown and happy than famous and unhappy.

Be as nice about it as possible. If someone's gonna get their feelings hurt, that's their own fault. Not yours.

Don't harsh on them just because they don't want the same things as you do.

Offer to help then find a replacement for you.

Even if you don't wanna remain friends with them, treat 'em as nice or nicer than you'd wanna be treated if the shoe were on the other foot.

The fact that they don't want what I want isn't the issue, that's perfectly fine with me.
The drummer just rolls over anything I say about anything, it's like he's the dictator.
That's my problem.
I do want to remain friends, so I will let them down easy.
I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I'm not the right guy.
I will play the big show with them, bring in a replacement and then leave on as good of terms as I can.

Yeah, there's no guarantee it won't turn ugly. Bassboar can only try his best to make it work out right.

If it does go to hell, all I can hope for is that the guitar players don't hate my guts.
Thanks for talking me down guys, I'm just so stressed these days.
You know that general feeling of shittiness.
Bleh.
Now that I've my bitching out and done with, I can play it cool.
I hate being "that guy".

Hey, no problem, Bassboar. We all go through rough spots.

Things get shitty and then they don't and then they get shitty again. It's a vicious circle. You just gotta make it to the part of the cycle that's not shitty again.

Break a leg.

If you do bring up the fact that the drummer is acting like a dictator, don't frame it that way. Make it come from you. When you say something like "you're doing this, this, and this wrong" it immediately puts the person on the defense.

Make your sentiments personal, like saying "I'm having a hard time communicating with you guys" or "to me, it feels like you're running the show and I don't have any say" or whatever it is you want to express. Rather than throwing out blame, your putting what you think and feel out there, so however they react is up to them. It won't be coerced or aggravated by blame or anger.

That's the counseling in me talking haha.

Spent half this night trying to get my Nook that I bought today to connect to my wireless network. Still won't connect. Pissed.
