After this's all over, I hope the U.S. gov't bills Trump for the damage he's done to our reputation

Re: Does it even really make a difference who the next POTUS
Yeah. Religions are super outdated, and now they have another place in society than they had back when they were created/a part of the political system. Extremism in religion sucks, but I feel like majority uses it to make sense of non-logical things and give a bigger meaning to this otherwise meaningless life. Or at least that's what I gather from my very few religious friends

Re: Does it even really make a difference who the next POTUS
Religion is a gap closer, always has been.
It started off as a bunch of stories to tell children when shit was either too difficult to explain, couldn't be explained or you needed to curb their behaviours by introducing an omnipresent and all seeing authority figure, which is where the morality effect comes into play.
I don't have a problem with people being spiritual or using it to try and find answers, but I think there are much better ways to get into contact with that aspect of the human condition.
I honestly believe the thing most religions call a "God" is the sense of interconnectedness we have as human beings.
How ironic it is then, that the fundamental essence of that indescribable aspect of human pathos becomes an externalised and arbitrary concept, scrutinised to the point of fundamentality and then used as a tool to enforce philosophies and moralities upon the uneducated and the poor, who lack the resources and the know-how to switch off the fear and say, "no", and ultimately removes that sense of humanity and love from the equation....
But whatever, 420 stoptheboats brah.

Apologies for how poorly written and constricted that was, I'm only halfway through breakfast.

Ah! cat and bag.

Still what you say does not explain people of wallmart.. those people might be able to set things on fire that should not be able to be but I doubt they could discover it.

Don't worry I ignore long political papers that don't come with a theseus, I'm sure you both are making good points but I have a headache so I ignored everything but this one line.Brandsmannen wrote:EDIT: fuck I'm sorry for the wall of text

I don't think Hils really grasps why people have a problem with her Wall St. Associations or, say, Henry Kissinger.
This worries me.

Backing this so hard. I've never voted before and I used to be completely against it because totalchaosanarkydestr0y, but we're legit in an era where women are going to jail for having miscarriages and nearly statewide abortion clinic shutdowns are happening (and some candidates want to ban abortion in all cases - including cases of incest and rape), Donald Trump wants to build a wall against Mexico and exterminate Muslims... more crazy shit than I can even mention right now. I could probably chalk most of my feelings on the matter to just growing the fuck up, but I've never been more about the whole lesser of two evils thing than now. It's tough because I'm not a liberal or conservative, but it's just like, what situation could possibly influence things in a way that will endanger less peoples' lives? Utilitarian compromise is a bitch.doommeow wrote:Yes, the next POTUS (and the one after that and the one after that and and and) is going to matter....
The balance of the Supreme court is all that matters now. Want gay marriage recognized on the national level? Want rights, especially federal rights for transgendered persons? Want some sort of limitations on what corporations can do with your data? Want some sort of limitations on what the government can do with you data (even though they are going to FUCKING LIE and do whatever they god damn please)? Want to stop it from being even easier for corporations to influence elections? Do you want any sort of rights to privacy at all if you’re arrested for a crime, regardless of whether or not you’re convicted or even charged? Wanna smoke pot? Wanna do what you want in your bedroom with someone that wants to do those things with you? Do you want your mother/daughter/sister/wife/self to have the right to an abortion? Want to keep which ever corrupt politicians are in power at the local level from redrawing voting lines so they can keep winning elections? Do you want some small chance that the so called free society will exist just a little bit longer (so maybe we’ll get that Fugazi record!)?
Most of what makes that happen - or what prevents other branches of government from making the negatives happen - are laws and Judges at the Federal level.
Judges that are appointed by POTUS.

Re: Does it even really make a difference who the next POTUS
Yeah… but that is also the problem, we are being held hostage by the Supreme Count's supremacy over our entire country like a house of lords when you look at it that way because it lets them know they have "supreme" power. It would be one thing if the other branches of government held them in check like they are suppose to [you know the original concept of the three balancing each other out] but they are not. Also before you get your hopes up and stuff take a look at how many judges Obama has attempted to appoint that have been held up and blocked…count.me.out wrote:Backing this so hard. Isn't the point though, that they uphold the law and do ONLY that?
Not sure how it works in your country but I didn't think judges were supposed to pick and choose outcomes based on their political affiliations.
It takes politicians to pass laws in order to achieve subjective governance.

Re: Does it even really make a difference who the next POTUS
In theory yes but no those guys are fucking politicians with a life term, they are not impartial by the law type judges, they are appointed BECAUSE of which way they swing politically which is why Hillary has any type of foot hold, "we" don't want another Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas…. the 5 to 4 vote thing has beed a big deciding thing in our country of late BECAUSE it isn't just upholding the law, but, who was appointed by whom to interpret the law… if you look at the 2000 election and the roll they played in it you might get an idea of the roll they play in our county...Iommic Pope wrote:Isn't the point though, that they uphold the law and do ONLY that?
