Three questions about the Fender Pawnshop VI
1) How do you like the stock pickups? Enough output from the single coils? Good balance between the 3? Did you swap them for something?
2) What are the values for the tone and volume pots?
3) Do you think a standard Mexican Mastery bridge would fit and work with it?
I just pulled the trigger on one.

Sidenote, anyone interested in trading a white VM VI pickguard for tortoise shell? Figured it was worth asking.

Re: Let's see your BASS VI, people
So what kinda speakers should I be looking at if I want to use my VI in a more guitar like manner in a heavy band? I like the way it sounds through the jazz chorus we have in my practice space, but I am afraid I will rip the speakers apart.
Would guitar head -> 4x10 bass cab be a good idea?

You'll get the most mileage if you split the signal between a bass stack and a guitar stack.WeHuntKings wrote:So what kinda speakers should I be looking at if I want to use my VI in a more guitar like manner in a heavy band? This is what I do. It's definitely the best way to handle the frequency split. Running an EQ on the bass side also really helps.Bon Hoga wrote:You'll get the most mileage if you split the signal between a bass stack and a guitar stack.WeHuntKings wrote:So what kinda speakers should I be looking at if I want to use my VI in a more guitar like manner in a heavy band? Just an ordinary bass case. My VI is custom-made and is actually as long as a standard Fender bass, you might fare better with a shortscale bass case. Bass case. I love saying that.BoatRich wrote:What're you guys using for hard cases?

Re: Let's see your BASS VI, people
I just got the pawn shop vi and ordered a Fender hardshell from Reverb with a real nice red felt interior...fits perfect. I've also gotten custom flight cases for about the same price as most regular hardshells from eBay.

Missed this thread. Here's my guy.
Squier VI. Swapped the trem system for a Mastery kit. Want to get the headstock matched sometime.

I'm with louderthangod on the Fender hardshell case.

I miss my Bass VI. :(y
I want a hollow/semihollow bass vi with a multiscale neck. That'd be the dream.

Re: Let's see your BASS VI, people
I know 8-strings are either considered super cool or the least cool thing ever but I personally like the idea of being able to go down to the low-E of a VI but to have the higher strings of a guitar and the multi-scale necks. I like the Jazzmaster trem though and I'm unaware of any 8-string version of this but I like the subtlety of it compared to Floyd Rose's or Strat Trems and I'm not the biggest Bigsby guy but I've only had very limited experiences with them. I also don't know of any multi-scales that will go out to 30". The semi-hollow idea is interesting, For me it would work with recording but not with my current gigging setup...just too much volume for any semi-hollow I've ever tried, those f-holes become built in fans at high volume with a lot of fuzz.Inconuucl wrote:I miss my Bass VI. :(y

Re: Let's see your BASS VI, people
I mean, multiscale is more common with basses to begin with, so I don't see how it wouldn't be possible. It would also solve one of the biggest problems I have with the bass VI, which is the lack of tension on the low strings.
The hollowness would increase bottom end, and it would work for me since I love giant boomy clean bass.

Re: Let's see your BASS VI, people
It wouldn't be multiscale, but with a small bit of work you could hack a RI Rivoli bass into a VI, in that it's a semi-hollow with a 30" scale and a nut width slightly larger than a standard Fender six string. If I still had mine from years ago I'd have done it already.
The prices I've seen for them recently are too high for what it is, IMO.
