Hey Bassus, ya know, mine sounds FANTASTIC on my strat, bit I'm having a tough time working it onto my bass board too, so it's not just you. I'm not sure why it is, though I'm still very glad I have it. It may just be a pedal that just reacts to high frequency content much better than LF content.
Mine is a tough beast to tame as well. I,too am using it with a strat. Thing is,I welcome the challenge! And of course, mine has oscillation capabilities. The 3 standard modes are easy breezy. The oscillator section is the real hard one to peg. I sure am having a lot of fun trying. By far,the most cantankerous and weird pedal I've owned. And I mean that in the best way imaginable

BassusSanguinis--lost in translation? I don't think I've shipped any Phantom Rings to Finland.
NearNeat--I agree that most of the settings react more to high frequencies, especially as 2 of the 3 modes are octave up. I've heard from some users who like the oct.down/glitch mode on bass (which doesn't glitch much on bass)...I'm no bassist, so I rely on customer emails for what's best with basses!
Ah... sorry Tom. I had thought from Mr Bassus's post that he also had one.
I HAVE noticed that it seems to respond better with my fretless, which is very very passive. I was also thinking about doing an ABY and putting that on a leg with a super shifter in front of it giving it an octave up, and then sending that into a second channel of my amp (or mixer if I'm recording). We'll have to try it, methinks
This is the most fucked up pedal I've ever owned. And with the oscillation mode(I haz custom ),it is purely insane. I love it. Everything on it is full of WIN,from guts to graphics. I've all but dry humped it since it landed lalala logging off nao

No, no You haven't.
I'm just referring to the passive electronics part I read in the end of the manual. I'm a little cautious since the active bass impedance and all the jazz makes these things sometimes... funny. Should probably take my bass to the Luthier that built it and ask for another knob to switch the pre-amp off. AND ask Tom to build a Phantom octave + AB-Synth inside, and then some
BUT THEN AGAIN - I was also warned not to go for an AB-Synth 'because they just don't work with active basses' and this proved to be bollocks with my super-duper-higain-active gear. NO problems what so ever, it's all You know.

yep. that whole idea about undesirable fuzz with active electronics... what a one way train of thought. all basses gonna have singular qualities through fuzz sources. active or passive - different shades of love. c'mon now, discriminating consumer.

The active electronics thing is a good concern...I think the potential problem with the Phantom Ring and actives would be the octave down in Mode Two, but you never know with actives! I try to be very careful with the warnings so people aren't disappointed. But I'm glad your AB-Synth is rocking w/ actives!
