This is actually surprisingly great for HARSH NOISE/mic boosting. It's not "great" for guitar shit, but it's not the worst... still, I rarely (never) use it with standard guitar applications.
I wouldn't want to dispute that the CS-3 could be good for HARSH NOISE/mic boosting. I honestly wouldn't know. I do know that when I plugged my guitar into it and ran it through my amp at the time (Randall RG-80), the signal was completely awash with hiss and white noise. I returned it the next day. I have had plenty of Boss pedals in my time. Still have a few that I actually like (an OC-2, a BD-2, my old MIJ DD-3, a DD-20...), but I will never buy the CS-3 again. I've been dabbling with the idea of trying another compressor. I've purchased the OSQ from General Guitar Gadgets and am assembling it. The only other pedal compressor that piques my interest is the Maxon CP101.
I swear the CS-3 made my signal
sound hissy, like Yngwie's...
(vid is only 30 secs...)

Add HM-2, FZ-2 and BF-2 to that list. I also like the Distortion + at least after modding it for a thicker sound.

...please the world is full of hacks/pedal dependent/noodling/indie bands w/ non playing muthafuckers on board...stop the madness!!!!!!!...funny I think I just called out the entire Harmony Central Forum ...most those cats post way to much to have ever sat down and even learned how to play the damned instrument!

Not to be a douche, but don't be such a fucking elitist!!!
Music is for NERRRRRDS!!! While I do hate the need some people collect "dream rigs" because "so-and-so has this pedal" because they refuse to just try and do something on their own, I still think the fact that it bugs you this much is, well, dumb.
After all, we live in a Capitalist society. If you can afford to buy pedals and crank out polished turds all day, so be it.
Also, some people never learn the traditional ways of using instruments to begin with (thinking of heavily-modded/prepared tabletop guitar shit here, not me being unable to make chords and simply deciding to not use them in favor of lots of pedals.

), yet still make good/interesting music. Does this invalidate them as musicians? I'd say finding new ways to use an otherwise PASSE instrument is pretty cool!
Even then, using the guitar as a "sound source" through pedals is no more lame or pretentious than being a freaking snob
WHO LIXE 2 SHREEEED!!!! in my book.
sweet

...an elitist?...that I am...I cannot be a douche and lie about it can I?...man you guys must think i'm a fast motherfucker on the fiddle or something because the shredder bit keeps coming up!

...no seriously I never said anything about shredding or only being able to play chords or some shit(both fukin boring IMO)...I worked & taught at a muisc/guitar/drum outlet for years...if I had a dollar for every time a person walked into the store, cranked up our nastiest amp(knowing damn well they cannot play) and then proceeded to try and belt out a simple riff like "smells like team spirit" or some uber nu-metal riff only to find out they can't even tune the fukin thing???...all i'm saying is if your creating music then it's all good...but if you make the same sound as my 3 yr old when she messes w/ my gear and wanna be called a musician, tough shit...it's not about shredding or only being able to play a few chords...it's about doing what you do well, if you can't reach a certain chord then practice it...not at top volume,or in front of a group of people...if your bands not tight then don't go and play shows goddamnit...you don't sound cool...you sound like you don't have your shit together and are an amature...

i'm getting really sick of this attitude that because some one likes better equipment they're an elitist. it just echos the anti intellectualism you see in politics. there is nothing elitist about liking tube amps and asking musicians to be semi competent at their chosen instrument.
in fact i just fucking hate the word elitist. can we please fucking word filter that word out of existence.

any prs guitar that isn't part of the se series. overpriced, boring. i have nothing against quality instruments being pricey, i just haven't really found a prs that brought anything new to the table.
fender frontman amps. some people like em, but the cleans are uninspiring and the dirt is GODDAMN AWFUL.

SORRY, I think I'm guilty of thatone. I'm just sick of people thinking their tastes in something make it better, or for that matter the whole Western thought of godlike judgement on everything. We seem to have to take everything and compare it to something else and determoine which is better and which is lacking, things can't all be good in their own way or @ what they offer particularly. Seems to have fascist overtones to me. and musically semi competence is always admireable for the populace approval, however i find that that if music is veiwed as art rather than a language it opens for more exploration and diversity rather than a formula that must be followed for acceptance. But hey, I love hearing shredding guitar (although it sometimes reminds me of a musical typewriter and the more words per minute the more thei players standing in the musical heirarchy, plus I don't tweak or do cocaine so I can't really think that fast all the time), for what it is as much as I like oscillation and reverb and tone for what it is. they all have their place. TUBES do rule for tone, but they are second in maintenance .
SO , I apologize again for riling anybody up, but I WILL NOT CHOOSE BETWEEN nimble fingers,an impeccable memory for patterns & physical PROWESS AND NOISE/ Solid State and TUBE, I WILL ENJOY both and try to be tolerant and not limit others aesthetic options and preferences., as it's a free country.
AND you can use Elitist or Snobbish anytime around me, I also triumph the anti and less than intelecctual although it doesn't make for effecient politics.
touchy and prissy little bunch of Fuzz Lovers in here, I think I picked the wrong forum, where are the old school punk rockers or the war vets hanging out ?! sheesh.
soon, you won't be allowed to make noise unless your rich and talented.
sorry to vent, the whining just seems illogical on a forum, even for this generation. FTW

One time I said "humbuckers are passe" in a video as a joke to mock single coil junkies. A dude flipped on me in a comment even when a humbucker guitar was in the background...
So if I ever sound elitist, I'm probably joking. As should everyone else. Play what you wanna play everyday no matter what they say.

Er, lemme rephrase that. Everything BOSS currently makes, or has made for the past...10 years.
I will say their vintage stuff has sounded pretty DAMN good! OD-1? CE-1? PH-1? DM-2 is a great one... I dislike reverb, but w/e... I'll also concede that many of their pedals sound great modded. I've heard some pretty fantastic DS-1's, and I myself own a modded SD-1 that I really quite like.

I'm quite fond of my BF-3 and wouldn't say no to any of the DD series or an OC-3.

I hate when I hear an awesome tone, so I google what it is... and I find out it's just some Boss pedal. Not even a vintage one.
Or worse. A lot of the Flaming Lips stuff is just done with a GT-8! Gah... pisses me off.
