This is also my feeling. Back in 12/13 there was so much activity on here that you almost couldn't keep track of all the stuff going on without dedicating a lot of time to it. BST was like an oriental bazar where things were changing owner by the hour. Everyone who had some free time started building pedals (including me) and the bond of the fuzz Brotherhood grew stronger. Now it's all modular synths and delay/modulation.

I think it's both, tbh. But also the vast majority of people who are not yet at the "got gud" stage aren't on forums anymore. It's all about that Gram, especially now that gigs got caught by the COVID -- if it doesn't get those dopamine inducing likes, is it really even a pedal>
good deals are here.
flesh couch is here.

I have a lot of mehs about this..
Since covid gramz has seemed on a down swing to me or maybe it's the things and people I follow.. lot less content [I'm so blame as much as anyone, I mostly post just to...] and I see a lot less varying of stuff...

Gigs have been dwindling for most bands for a while now. Most like to pretend this isn't a thing but venues have been reducing steadily. And with it the need for workhorse gear vs vintage/collector, bedroom chopsmanglers and distressed trapperkeeper pink sparkle bling.

What I have been seeing for a while is there isn't a whole bunch of actually new music being made on a large scale, lot of gear, lots of tech skillz growing, but I haven't seen a big new thang in a long time. While the nerd culture vacuum keeps the gear obsessions going somewhat you aren't getting a big bottom swell from beginners wanting to play "their" music. So, I think we are in a lull between things ending and things beginning, I think once more of the extended range stringed things, VST and the modular stuff get more common place where kids can get their hands on them and sit in their rooms and work it out [we might need to destroy all fones/pads/videogamez but it will be worth it] there will be soming we don't totally get or understand or can relate to exactly but we need it.

or something...
