I agree, right in his bitter husk of a face. It took real balls for him to malign a dead man. Jones was probably smacked out during the interview, and just babbling the usual, arrogant "We jazz musicians are just so, so superior" tripe. And this Toots Thielman guy he's raving about was the greatest harmonica soloist in the world. What a joke. [sarcasm]I'm sure Jimi Hendrix was terrified of a harmonica soloist.[/sarcasm]Jesus Was a Robot wrote:Oh fuck Quincy Jones. That tired ass man is just bitter.

Are free jazz musicians so, so superior?

They are so superior that they need no scales whatsoever!

Re: Your Most Overrated Bands
The thing that Quincy Jones and other Ringo haters fail to understand is that his childish, amateur, ham-fisted playing style really served the songs well. In particular, on the later, weirder, and/or stripped down nursery rhyme-esque John Lennon stuff. I think a more competent, proficient drummer would have ruined those songs with over playing. There is something charming about his crappy playing that I think adds a lot to those songs. Imagine Keith Moon on a Beatles track. It wouldn't end well.
Moreover, I think this general aesthetic is still heard today in lofi indie pop type stuff.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Rashida Jones is fucking hot.

I thought I was the only weirdo enjoying Starr's drumming style, what I appreciate more is that he let songs "breathe" keeping a very even balance (yeah OK, it was all about vocals), compared to most of the drum "fillers" in the 70s. Another example of lame drummers I enjoy is Radiohead's, except he has no charm nor an awesome hair.

I don't know why OG youth crew hardcore is so coveted as well.

I always thought of Ringo as a better drummer than he seems or gave himself credit for

I love Ringos drumming.
The drum solo on The End is the only drum solo I can stand.
