I feel like a good horse kicking would be a good explanation. I just watched some YouTube videos of interviews with him and was convinced that he's not a stable individual. And yeah I also feel like face tattoos are a pretty solid indication of festering lunacy..

Pretty sure the "brain damage" would be related to the alcoholism.
Then again, I never really gave a shit about Mastodon/Hinds, anyway, so I don't know the full story there.

semi-OT post: i bought the Dirge-guar in the meantime while i'm having a Bilt with an EGC neck put together. Kevin told me that the day i paid would be the day he shipped initially, followed by "it will be in the mail tomorrow" every week for about two months before it actually was. he seems like a decent guy whose heart is in the right place, but man - just hiring someone to do shipping and reply to emails would do his business wonders, tbh.

i commented on brent's ig post, but i thought i'd echo it here:
it most likely takes kevin a shitload of time to design custom guitars for his CNC router. the process is definitely easier than doing it by hand, but all the programming involved can be a headache. this is probably the reason he doesn't do custom orders anymore; he's become busier and custom orders are probably not as profitable as standard models he has listed on his website. once that programming work is done, very little has to be done to reproduce the guitar. makes sense to me why he's saying the initial one is $5k and the fan or whatever only paid $3.5k -- he's paying for kevin's time spent in front of a computer screen designing. other people don't need to pay for that because it's already done.
i'm speculating a lot here. who knows? also it's bullshit imo that a guy that is selling out large venues is complaining about a couple grand at best. but hey, that's just my eat-the-rich political worldview.
