This is my kind of list :animal: !!! How did I miss THE RITA released two albums this year! I just read his most recent interview; articulate as always. http://archaictriad.com/2017/09/13/deco ... -the-rita/

New records by Unsane and Propagandhi came out yesterday. One sounds exactly as you'd expect it to. The other takes quite a few unexpected changes in direction.

Unsane is the former. Propagandhi is the latter. Both are good.

It's been a very harsh year! And I loved that interview. Was really well done.

So far in 2017 I've picked up:

The Rita/Naughty tape
The Rita/Frightened Moon tape (with sunglasses :idk: )
The Rita/Moisture Discipline tape
The Rita "Medora"
The Rita & An Innocent Young Throat Cutter CD
The Rita "Journey of the K Verband" 7"

I know there was at least one tape I missed though.

Plus a cassette reissue of TOTAL SLITTING OF THOATS feat. The Rita, The Cherry Point, Mania, Sewer Election and Treriksroset may or may not be coming out in about a week

LANTERN: “II: MORPHOSIS”

I listened to this a while back when it came out and then was going through some old playlists.
This is fucking killer. It's like if Napalm decided to make a progressive death metal album. And it's not the guitar nerd sort of progressive, but the "I could smash some beers to this, sure" kind of progressive.

Too early to say, but really enjoying Satyricon's new one too.

I love SATYRICON...all incarnations of the band.

Do I think this is the best record of the year? No. Do I think this is Sleaford's best record? No. Do I ever get sick of this band? Absolutely Not.

I need to catch up. I'm usually so on top of this sort of thing.
If you ever get chance to see THE RITA live please do it! I cannot recommend enough.

I don't know the Rita but after reading that interview and seeing the LINGUA IGNOTA name drop it's probably a hard pass for me.

Incidentally, she had two releases this year and I was pretty into them.

I need to hear the Richard D. James releases this year. I am so behind V  V

I think this goes without saying (and I think it's gonna be released this year), but we all agree that Björk's new album is already the defacto #1, right?

New Satyricon is really, really good. I think I love it.

This is an album I've come back to a fair bit.

It doesn't do anything special - doomy finnish melodeath. It's got pretty ok/average/not exceptional reviews across the board. But it is the first melodeath album I've really gotten into in a loooooong time, and each time I spin it I dig it. Overproduced (but that goes without saying) but the bass tone is tasty, growls are guttural and the female vocals are fantastic - really restrained and downtempo that contribute a lot to the gloom.

I got into SATYRICON via the revival of Headbangers Ball in 2003. 'Volcano' came out and the single was 'Fuel For Hatred'
I must warn you...it's pretty hard to watch this, but I still like it

I remember going to Tower Records in Trump Tower to buy 'Volcano'. They didn't have it so I bought MACHINE HEAD's 'Through The Ashes Of Empires'...my the world has changed...

Reread the interview. dug it a lot more. LI is still very melodramatic for me, esp live.
