Phasers and Flangers. I probably get along with Phasers more though I can't seem to keep them on my board for more than a week. It's just hard finding one that's simple enough but doesn't sound too mushy or overly cheesy and digital.

The trick for RATs is they, too sound best at stage volume, within a band. Or with a rippin' amp in a good studio's biggest room
Stacking an overdrive with a RAT usually makes them a lot more usable too, they just need a little more Mids and Highs. Though I think they just work better with certain guitars like LPs and Teles.

I don't think we should use pedals at all. It's all about the right amp and the right strat

If certain peds *cough muff cough rat* only sound great when you stack 'em with other peds, use em with this amp and that guitar, at high volumes only and in good sounding rooms...Doesn't that basically comfirm you're better off just spending that $100 on say, a The Elements?

What if I have an escape that effects me?

Toby Driver makes chorus sound amazing in Kayo Dot, but most other musicians using chorus make it sound corny. I would say it escapes me, but the effect that baffles me the most is VCF Hold.

Can I just name a brand that escapes me??
Walrus Audio. There I said it. I've tired many of their stomps and the ONLY one worth a crap on bass was the rat clone, which was pretty fucking awesome, but the rest are MEH.

Compressor... I don't understand them... I cannot play with them.
They makes me sound like craps.

In response to the questions sent my way: I would love to try an Ape Blaster. It's a pedal that always blips on my radar and them I forget about it. It had a definite hype period a couple years ago and now I only occasionally see them and think "fuck I need that"
Re volume: nope, not a volume knob guy. I'm too heavy handed to make volume work in a live situation. I never really got the volume thing. Why would I want less fuzz? Maybe I haven't used the right fuzzes either. My approach more involves stacking od/dist pedals to achieve the desired level of gain. I'm better at stomping pedals than I am at wrangling a knob.
The shred is awesome. The shred lives on. I used to play in a pretty technical post-hardcore band and it was a ton of fun. I still occasionally try to write really riffy stuff, but I'm more for quality (of notes played) over quantity these days. I always wanted to learn to play like Paul Gilbert, but never had the discipline to practice like that, or learn all the scales.

Envelope filters. They always sound SOOOOOO fucking lame when I try one. Some people can make them sound good. I just can't. But wahs or lpfs with exp pedals, I'm totally cool with.
