Like, for me, this bit that you said is perfect (bold mine)
Uh I think the hate for me is that they were posited/hyped as a 'revolutionary/genre-expanding' black metal band by people who, and I think this is sort of the point of contention, don't actually listen to black metal... when they're actually just putting rehashed explosions in the sky leads over third-rate tremolo-picked riffs. It seems to be pretty transparent trend hopping (at least, to me) and it's also just not very, uh, good, but it also made it safe for the trend sailors to 'invade' black metal, if you will.
I admit that I feel a bit of hate for the band when you see a YT comment like this
Possibly the greatest post rock album ever...
I find it hilarious that Black Metal fans hate this band... yet they praised a band like Emperor for changing the formula, by incorporating classical music. Make up your damn mind.
It's a perfect, 10/10 album ruined by faggots who can't handle a little experimentation in a genre that's been done to death.
Our generation's Dark Side of the Moon.
I mean, I stated in this thread that I like DH, and I do. But after reading those I like them them less.

And I'm just gonna present these gems without commentary
I just can't get into the vocals.. The instrumentals on this album are killer but man.. The vocals with the screaming..
I can't get past the vocals, I've never liked black's screaming vocals and after so many years it appears I won't like it anytime soon.
Beautiful instrumentation diluted with obnoxious screaming.
Did they even write lyrics to this or is it just distorted screaming?
The band aren't the only ones who're screaming.

First things first, Deafheaven are amazing. Three killer post black metal albums in a row.

So now just because they don't dress like a bunch of embarrassing weirdo cultists, they don't deserve to make a certain type of music. Fucking grow up. This is how genre overlaps with culture. Eventually a bunch of kids got into black metal by finding them in their record shops, then they want to make music inspired by it, but they never in their lives felt like painting their face and wearing trench coats, so why the fuck should they do it now? They wanna dress how they usually dress and act how they usually act. If anything its commendable.

Also in terms of sound, the inclusion of clean guitars is one of the best things that has happened to black metal. Theres only so much a BOSS HM-2 is capable of doing musically.

Ha, thank you.

But just to follow up, every new generation of art is an amalgamation of everything that came before. Just like how Mayhem were. For god's sake, Burzum practically combined Brian Eno with that shit from DAY ONE.

This is natural to art. Not to sound camp or anything, but its what makes every generation of art exciting. The fact that I for example, like Britpop but at the same time like Post Hardcore, and have the FREEDOM to do whatever the fuck I want when I pick up my guitar, that's an exciting and *cringe* beautiful thing. Same with the guys from Deafheaven. They like black metal, but they also like Slowcore, and Radiohead, and Fugazi and Slowdive. To expect a new generation to of just heard one genre and then somehow be only into that thing for the rest of their lives? Its delusional. They should have the freedom to do what they want when they pick up their guitars. Without that simple fact, the whole point of art loses its meaning.

One of the most important bands of all time, Spacemen 3, wouldn't of been what they ended up being without being a weird mixture of psych, blues, gospel, art rock, drone, Suicide era electronica, Phil Spectre/Joe Meek, British invasion, the boring electronic music in the 50's that was just literally one Synth making one sound for 10 minutes etc etc. I mean that took a shitload of ingredients for us to get that blessing of a band. And then its endless. Without Spacemen 3, you wouldn't have Shoegaze, the post-psych revival stuff like Brian Jonestown or MGMT or Tame Impala, the indietronica like Panda Bear/Animal Collective.

Anyone who is against this transition of black metal are the musical equivalent of conservatives/fascists, and you can tell with the way they come off. They can fuck off.
