I really don't dig it, either it seems to sound like a distortion or when it tries to be a fuzz it has this ugly scrambled sound with some nasty high pitches in there like a failed octave up fuzz or something.
At least, that's what it sounds like to me in every video or soundclip I saw / heard of it. :idk:
Not to shit on the party though, I'm just curious what you're hearing that makes you enthusiastic of this thing. :)
Don't worry about it, you are right on the money. The Carcosa is not a smooth fuzz, it is pretty much the polar opposite of a BMP. The Carcosa is a rough and tumble fuzz that is meant to sound like your amp is blowing up, it skirts the edge of ugly in most modes. Lately, my favorite 70's fuzz tones seemed to be dwindling in favor of "smooth and dark" fuzzes. I wanted to put something out that sounded wild and uncontrollable, like something that Mick Ronson or Wayne Kramer would use.

The Carcosa won't get you Comfortably Numb, but it will get you The Nile Song.

That said, there are some smoother sounds in the Carcosa, I think that the demo guys up to this point have concentrated on the wilder sounds in the Carcosa because they are dramatic and fun. BTW here is a live clip from my band practice where I am using the Carcosa exclusively. It is going into the B-Channel of my Thunderverb set clean.

Cool vid, sounds good! :)
The Carcosa sounds good too, in the vid I would almost say it's a distortion and not a fuzz.
For me the fuzz sounds in there are a bit in between of an octave fuzz and a regular fuzz from what I heard so far.
I mean, octave fuzz can be really cool but the specific blend in the Carcosa is probably not my thing I guess.
There aren't many clips around of the Maestro but in those clips it actually sounds fuzzy and fat at the same time, the Carcosa really is a different beast of it's own so it seems, which is cool, there's enough of the same anyway. :)

Yeah, I think since the Carcosa can get so many different tones it is going to be a little hard to pin-down. What does it sound like? Well, a lot of different things!

In that practice clip I'm playing a bunch of weird chords with ringing open strings, and that style doesn't usually translate well with fuzz. As you can hear, the Carcosa is able to handle it. Because I have the AFTER (bias) set to ~11:00 and it isn't splatting out. Now if I were to raise the bias to around 1:00 it would sound completely different and start to get some of the octave up scrambled sound.

Yeah, it's totally made my GAS list.

Sold! I gravitate towards having at least a fair amount of attack in its range with any fuzz/od/distortion. One of the reasons why something like a Buzzaround (clone) appeals to me: the saturation & sustain is nice but I need that attack! Rude or abrasive sonics = into it

I've only used it with my Bass VI into my bass amp so far, but the Carcosa is now the boomiest fuzz that I own. Some serious sub bass action but with the aggressive attack of a 60s fuzz. This thing is KILLER.

And you've had some real boomers in your stable, too, so that means something.

Thing is a texture factory. I haven't gotten around to trying out dirt stacking with it yet because I'm still trying to figure out everything it does on its own.

TBH I didn't do a lot of stacking tests with the Carcosa, I've never personally been much of a stacker. The most I did was put a DOD 410 BiFET in front of it to see how it would react to having a boost drive it further into saturation. It sounded good, but I currently run the 410 after the Carcosa as a solo boost.

I posted this over on TGP, but I don't think it's really getting the appreciation it deserves over there:

I think it's fucking AWESOME! :!!!: :idk:

This dude needs a Carcosa fuzz.

Shit.
I wasn't super interested in the Carcosa before but after this I suddenly feel the urge to buy one next time I have money.
Or just convince the other guitarist in my band to do so...

I like it when people like the things we make. :joy:

For the people who care about this stuff, the transistors are silicon, but there're some clipping diodes that are germanium, so you get different flavors of signal-mangling depending on how BEFORE and AFTER are set.
