Gloss are a lot like Limp Wrist to my ears. Their demo is rad:

dase: the humor here lies in the fact that these are Subversive Counterculturals™ getting all upset and offended. The entire schtick of the scene (oversimplification ahead!) is based on being confrontational but some moron posts something confrontational in the opposite direction and everyone clasps hands over their mouths and starts murmuring like someone's been caught masturbating at a church service. Hence the label examples, etc. I assume you're not a dipshit and know where I'm coming from here, it's got fuck all to do with the SJWhatever.

No sacred cows means no sacred cows to me, not a different set of 'em. Punch at everyone.

G.L.O.S.S's target market = queer, trans, femme people.

And you're completely wrong if you think the punk scene that G.L.O.S.S (man that's annoying to type out) come from is based on being confrontational to everything. Absolutely, 100% wrong. It's based on creating spaces for people to be themselves that can't be in the outside world. You're constructed a completely false analogy.

These are politics with a little p, everyday personal things where people say what is and isn't okay for them to do. The label tried to make a stand based on their own principles and because it's the internet some obnoxious kids are like 'yeah but what about this, omg you also probably have an iphone'. Fuck. Off.

Wanna punch at everyone? Totally fine. But here's the thing and this is the thing that makes me kinda hate ILF: people punch back. As a dude that likes dudes I find some of the shit you say especially Spaceritual offensive. I don't fucking bother saying a thing about it because a) mostly I don't care, but also b) you'd just be like 'that's who I am, I'm offensive' and whinge about people being PC. If nothing's sacred that means you too, and if you offend someone, blaming them for getting offended is some weak, weak bullshit.

It's not bad.

I bet if anything the internet ablaze with furor got them a couple new fans and some album plays.

I wish a big band would call me something horrible.

I think D.o.S., you're saying that there are a lot of posers jumping on the trans bandwagon right now that are making this a big deal because it fits with their current ideals? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, the past 4 pages of this thread of have been a complete fucking shitshow.

Either way, I don't care if "posers" or whatever are bringing this to light even if those people are generally mouthbreathers. Shit like trans/queer/femme needs to be brought up and expressed because as Daseb as pointed out, these people really don't have anywhere else to go in the world without being ridiculed for their "choices" because a bunch of people are too uptight to actually look at things in a different light than their own.

Fuck I don't know if this makes sense I don't know why I'm jumping in this. Fuck Whirr.

Id actually really like to know what i said that offended you "as a dude who likes dudes"? Was it the pennywise thing? Honestly i didn't think that would be offensive but if it makes you feel shitty ill take it down. Ive been accused of many things over my life but being insensitive to homosexuals has never been one of them.

Sort of. Before this thread inevitably devolves into a flurry of Canadian blog posts and against me references and shit I'll just copy and paste from the convo I just had with dasebae:

"I mean I can't comment on whatever those people think their scene is but I've never fit in with them just like I've never fit in with the people they're standing in opposition to so as a marginalized spectator to the marginalized spectators their "safe space" thing has always been a bunch of bullshit/a locker room with a different name. It's not 'outsider' music at all it's just got a whole different set of handshakes and I find that funny as hell contextually. Like, Reagan sitting in front of an aborted fetus is ok because hey fuck reagan he's a useless piece of shit but some dipshit posts a tweet and THATS OFFENSIVE AND RUDE AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED rings so hollow to me. "

Now, is that (along with the rest of my posts in yeeee old thread) me bringing my own prejudices and baggage and whatever into a situation that may have/probably has very little if anything to do with it? Sure. That's entirely fair and almost certainly correct. it does, however, inform the fact that the backlash feels disingenuous to me -- particularly because, as I've said ad nauseum, being a decent human being isn't something you should have to parade on social media or whatever whenever the lynch torch gets its flint struck.

I can agree with that. I also have no problem with people being vocal against people like Whirr saying shit like this. Because it's fucked up, and ultimately it's another drop in the bucket.

Also, I think a big part of all this stems from the fact that these people aren't generally accepted even in the hardcore punk scene, which has generally been a safe space for the fuck ups. It's become weirdly divided now. I wasn't there for the scene in the 90s, but I hear a lot of stories of people holding workshops and what not to try and teach people why they shouldn't be raging shitbag misogynists et al. I think that's what the world of today is missing, there aren't enough people teaching acceptance for the hot button issues that are currently going around.

That and the internet is just one big pile of shit.

Yeah I get that. I just think casting these things as a tumblr lynch mob is a way that kind of marginalises the very real anger at the bottom of it. Theres a baby that needs to be listened to being chucked out with the bathwater.

Spaceritual this is a cop out because Im typing this on my phone while taking a shit: I dont think youre a homophobe. I wouldnt care if you were. I dont want anyone to edit their comments. But youre on a site with strangers who dont get tone, dont understand who you are as people outside this thing, and basically using gay as an insult is offensive to some people. If that matters to you, if you dont wanna hurt their feelings, think about it. If you don't care, THATS TOTALLY FINE. Just realise that its not a person youve never met's fault for not giving you the benefit of the doubt or understanding the joke.

As I said in conversation with DOS I actually have a super offensive sense of humor, I just like to tone it down around strangers because I dont want to make anyone feel bad. Especially if the wider world does that to them already.

Also I dont know what shows you guys are going to but theres a lot of shows here that are going out of their way to encourage participation from people who arent white boys. And its been like that since I started going to shows 20 years ago. Its not perfect and its often full of people saying one thing and doing thenither but its there.
