WHAT THE FUCK?!

You don't even respect Brand New?

I am trying so hard not to bite.

I don't LIKE Brand New. I LIVE Brand New.

Ugggguhghghghg

How can you sit there and just disrespect the greatest guitar rock band of my whole goddamned generation

How old are you? Are you like some fifty year old blues guy who sits around in his livingroom talking about tonal warmth

EDIT: I am not butthurt, just completely, jawdroppingly incredulous. I have never met anyone IRL who didn't think BN were pretty much God incarnate with guitars

I'm 26. Brand New suck. They are certainly not the greatest guitar rock band of our generation, you just have the musical taste of a gnat drunk on tears, bad lyrics, and wine coolers.

Alternatively, it's possible you have met approximately five people. Four of whom are Kbit and gunslinger_burrito (and then meeting them again in disguise), and one of whom is your wife. They're great people. You're a great person, I'm sure your wife is too, but you really need to square with the fact that you listen to bad music (so do kbi and gunslinger, sometimes).

That whole Victory Records/maybe signing to island or DefAmerican/Glassjaw/Used/Orange Country screamo era was garbage. It was bad. It was not good. The music sucked. I have already posted a handful of bands I, as a fan of punk music, sought out in place of that trash. I listened to that because it was [not] all those shitty bands, which is a criteria I look for in most music I actively listen to: not being shite.

I'm 28, BTW.

I don't know what to say. I'm not even being a fanboy. Brand New are an incredible band. The sophistication of the lyrics and songwriting on Deja Entendu alone are virtually unsurpassed in rock music. That's my "Desert Island Disc." To paraphrase you snarky signature (endearingly snarky mind you), "Some things are good but... nothing's really Deja Entendu good."

I mean, ultimately, OBVIOUSLY, musical taste is subjective. You're not wrong for not liking BN and I'm not wrong for loving Brand New. But if I'm honest on a personal level I'm really just confounded by how anyone could not see how amazing a band Brand New is. It hurts some really butthurt whiny part of my darkest heart! But anyway.

I suppose you don't want to hear my incredibly detailed and nuanced breakdown of every single BN lyric ever.

Okay smartypants... what's YOUR "Desert Island Disc"? Raw Power? Is that really it?

First of all, if you're gonna fanboy over Brand New, make it The Devil and God. Deja is good, but TDAG beats it any day. Deja was the first album of theirs that I got into, but they've definitely progressed since then. Hell, I'll take Daisy over Deja any day.

Conversely, I think their songs are mostly boring and their progressions are mostly tired, their lyrics are trite and their tones and textures aren't interesting to me in the slightest. That is why I don't like the band. You can look up the Brand New thread we had a little while ago: I said the same thing there. Band is boring, and I have no desire to investigate them any further.

No way I could narrow it down to just one Desert Island disc but it probably wouldn't be Raw Power (which you are missing the context and the point of by referencing, but that's neither here nor there). I have Double Nickels on the Dime playing right now -- that's as good an answer as any, I guess.

I never liked DNOTD much or Minutemen in general. Tried. Failed.

I understand Raw Power being an ironic thing, I was half joking too. Iggy Pop though, also meh.

I guess... we're just... different people... or something.

This is an invigorating but very much dead-end conversation.

OMG no, Daisy is just random noise and shit (coming from someone with over twenty Merzbow albums) and D&G was okay but defines, for me, the word "overrated." It's Deja all the way.

Debating the merits of late '90s and early 2000s post-hardcore. I think it's literally the best era and genre of music bar none and Weedian or whatever there thinks it sucks a whole lot. :idk:

All of this sprung from a similar conversation about the band Refused, who are incredible, don't listen to that guy.

Their new album sucks donkey balls though. I thought we were over the concept of selling out as a society. I was quite definitively wrong.
