To be fair, my chance of winning anything is about 0% since I have fairly non-hip choices!

How about this:

After all voting is done from each category (small, med, large), the top two from each go on to compete in a finalist round.
I'll contact each person who makes it to finals and ask them if they have the capability to do a short cell phone demo.
If each of them say that they can do it, then we'll have sound clips for finals.
If any of them don't have the ability (no camera or whatever), then in the interest of fairness we'll probably have to go without clips.

Anyone have any additional suggestions or does this seem like a decent plan for the time being?

Even cellphone demos won't be created equal (interface, phones, etc).

If we go demo, let the folks doing it decide IMO - audio, video, format, whatever.

We're not restricting their guitar choice or amps etc either - so why go there with the limiting cell phone?

That does make sense, I suppose if we have demos at all we might as well let folks do them however they want.

Shitty compression algorithms = the great leveler

SC streaming isn't much better to be honest.

(It's why I have *everything* set to downloadable, it's a pale imitation of itself streamed even with good cans or monitors)

I say, if we are going to listen to demos, let at least some of them sound great. Forget about fairness, think of my enjoyment!

Question: Do volume/expression pedals need to be on the board to count? I don't mind if they do, as it would just make it harder to pick the other pedals or skip the volume/expression pedal.

Hopefully, I'll remember to send in a board.

Expression/external FS is attached seems to be simply part of the pedal it's attached to in practice.

Little different than full MIDI but...I'd say it depends on you and your actual use as to whether it should be 'attached'.

I agree here, usually an expression pedal seems to be an extension of the pedal it's plugged into, rather than something on its own.
Unless it's some crazy fancy one that has 60 outputs and 7 LFOs or something.
