Thanks everybody! I put some flats on it so now I have one with flats and a p/j setup and one with rounds and a humbucker. Nice variety of tones, and I've already found stuff that sounds better with one or the other.
Now I'm debating building a bass vi instead of getting a Squier. Maybe stained dark green...

MAN! OK.
So maybe I'm not done yet. I can totally do this. It probably wouldn't be too hard to make the headstock look right. Paint over and sand the dowels and then drill. I would definitely upgrade the pickups if I did this over getting a bass vi.

Definitely need some new pickups for this thing. Those alumitones would be best I think. Just wary about dropping enough money for a new bass on this. My Junior Jet just sounds better. Maybe I just prefer humbuckers to the p/j setup.
Any other high output pickups with plenty of clarity?
