Ahhhhh I wouldn't have put the copper on last night if I knew about wetsanding :(

And yeah, I'm stoked for the neck to get here as well. I was quoted 4-5 weeks, and we are on week 2 now. So, hopefully in another 2-3 it will be here!

I haven't heard anything about the Sunn pickguard. I touched base last week but didn't get much of an update

Now I'm just waiting on the pickguard, I still haven't heard any updates on it. I guess I need to touch base again. It's all I'm really waiting for to finish the body up. I don't want to drill control plate holes until the pickguard is down.
Tonight is tuners!!

Alright, so I started work on the neck last night, and I am furious with not only myself, but with Gotoh.
I drilled the pilot holes for the tuners last night. I didn't have the right gauge drill bit, so I tried to gauge a smaller hole with the size that I had, and just gently test the screws half way in and then gauge some more.
Long story short, 5 tuner screws broke off into the headstock. Now I've got to extract the screws and plug the 5 holes with maple, and then drill again.
LUCKILY, I've got a friend that partners with Stew Mac, who said he would drop his screw extraction kit in the mail for me, so I can get it taken care of.
But I'm just beside myself. The screws litterally snapped IN HALF, and one weasled its way to the face of the headstock. Ugh.
Going to extract the screws, and fill the tiny hole in the face with a toothpick plug

I always saw gotoh as a cheap company.
why not buy a left hand drill bit to get the screws out?

I should have known better, I've installed these tuners on 3 different necks before and it's never been easy
And the screws don't have heads, they broke off and just the shafts are left in the headstock, so I gotta essentially dig them out

I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen on a fender bass I was working on. Getting those tiny shafts out is a pita. The solution is to drill the pilot holes near to the same diameter as the screw will be. It's ok to do this as the force acting against the screws will be sideways. they aren't holding anything together, just keeping the tuner from rotating.

use a left hand drill bit on your drill in reverse and drill into the broken screw and it'll catch and back out the screw.
