Hey Ax, have you heard of milk paint?
That can often give a really awesome relic look.
I've also had excellent results for a more 'regal' relic with shellac.
And then proceeding to whip it with a chain.

AxAxSxS wrote:Completely cant wait! The idea is to make it look like the inside of a tomb wall. So it will get stain and semi relic treatment. this is the base layer and much of the dye that is on it now will be sanded off. I want just a hint of the color when it's done, as if it was 4000 years old. I'm so stoked I finally have it and can work on it. I need to resist the temptation to rush on it so that the original idea still happens. ;)

Ah werd!
That's gonna be so much archeologipoon.

Milk paint? nope. never heard of it. Kinda scared to google it but....
Off I go!

Edit: And back. that stuff looks cool. I think I'm to far along with the method I picked to change up but I'll keep it mind for future stuff. Much less porn associated with that than I thought there might be

Hmm.....maybe have some of the grit paint too so it looks as if it was built into rock/sandstone?

Milk Paint is something I've used on guitars and cabs! It looks amazing if done right (which isn't too hard to achieve).
I'll have a dig for some photos man!

Was looking through this guy's work on cabs since an acquaintance of mine knows him somehow and I saw he was going to his showcase.

Kinda like the look but it's pretty rough. It's almost like they are pre worn in.

I've been planning on using milk paint on my next guitar build for almost a year, just haven't gotten to the build part yet. I botched the HVLP poly spray on my pine p-bass build and have been sanding it down, I was thinking of redoing that with milk paint. Never seen it used on a cab before, but lots of people use it on shabby chic style furniture refinishes. They usually recommend you seal it with some kind of oil, usually raw tung oil. Though I've seen some people using tru oil and polywhey over it.

Yea I feel the same way. I helped my aunt to that on a desk and it was awful, turned out looking like shit and it's something I really wouldn't recommend to anyone. I don't like the look either.

pretty cool looking stuff there.

based on what they were selling that b52 reshelled head for i don't think their prices are at any greater deal than most similar offerings. shipping would be the biggest thing.
i definitely dig the logo though. very cool.

Oh yea no doubt, really dig the logo as well. I just like looking through and seeing things other people are doing. Since I now build my own I don't care to seek out new cabs anymore.

Those 'worn in' cabs look like they were cut with a blunt saw! Mauler looks like it won't fall apart at all.
