DL8 delay is pretty good. Delays are super crisp. The only thing I wish it had was a tone knob, but I'm just spoiled.

cool, I need to take a road trip to pro guitar shop and test all of these out. or maybe the guitar store has most of these now.

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
Bump. I wish there was a comparison reference chart for loopers, showing which ones did fadeouts, reverse, how much storage, one-shot etc. Just one reference guide that compared all the key features of all the loopers "at a glance". So you could figure out which model comes closest to your needs. As mentioned earlier, people have different needs. I like the storage ability of the Boss RC20 (10 stored loops I think) and the ability to fade out when turning a loop off. But it would be great if other loopers had the same potential too, as the Boss dual footswitch is not my favorite hardware format. Is there a comprehensive comparison of features somewhere?
Also, this guy rocks a Headrush E1, he is an awesome performer. Experimental beatbox, I guess? But with performance art elements (frenzied pseudo 'modern dance' moves, little breaks for storytime, etc). Doesn't show him building up his loop in the beginning, but you get an overall idea of what he does. (Image quality sucks, but it's the best aural representation I could find on Youtube).

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
I had a Boss looper but never clicked with it. sold it last year.
Bought a delaylab, love it, but it's so freakin' big.... frankly it's cool and I'll use it at home but I ain't taking this thing to play live or lugging it to my jam space.
Borrowed a DMM w/ Hazarai from my brother, he's never getting it back. I love the ability to manually slow and speed up loops, I like the fact you have to hold down the switch (I dunno, it works well) plus the various tone and blend controls. I also splurged on a DD7 and I haven't really experimented with the looper but I'm now pretty sure I'll be using both on my board as delays and/or loopers which is going to be great. Aside from the very noticible volume drop in the DMM I'm sold on it as a looper.

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
1. Question: Anyone here used a Line 6 Backtrack as a looper?
2. Question: where do people favour placing their looper(s) in their signal chain? At the very end?

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
I can never figure out the optimal placement. After (a lot) of reverb/delay there's always a noticible click over between the end and start of the loop from the feedback/reverberations so I usually place it before but sometimes I want the effects actually looping. It's a hard, hard life.....

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
Yeah, I tend to use the lo-fi loop Junky towards the middle of my signal chain, and place an Oberheim Echoplex right at the end. Sometimes I'll put the echoplex further up stream, but really some of what you are talking about is the challenge of getting great loops. Hitting that sweet spot live of a seamless loop. Or, if you have to have a loop that is going to have reverb tail off, maybe you need two loopers.retinal orbita wrote:I can never figure out the optimal placement. If you come all the way down to Portland for Pro-Guitar shops, make a point of hitting Old Town Music [small, old school place that supports the more obscure builders and has a fantastic selection at 20% -30% less than Emerald City's used prices AND there's no sales tax here in Oregon. I'd also recommend hitting Trade Up music up on Division. Hit and miss, but usually something interesting, and lastly Control Voltage up on Mississippi Ave. They are more modular and synth, but carry Koma, Moog, Elektron, etc…decomposing wrote:cool, I need to take a road trip to pro guitar shop and test all of these out. or maybe the guitar store has most of these now.

Let's talk about how this is a $50 looper pedal with a bunch of built in effects too:

I think Zoom has been killing it the last couple years. I've had the G3 and MS-50G and they were both rad.

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
What's the cheapest looper available?
Might it be the NUX Time Core delay/looper? Its looper mode does 40 seconds. These can be had new for c. £35 on ebay UK.

NUX have a dedicated looper pedal, the Loop Core, but I don't think it's properly available yet. It can do up to 6 hours recording time!

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
Yeah I'm not going to pretend I'm so awesome at guitar it's only my tools that are failing, but I usually use a fuck ton of reverb and make loops more for ambient droning than rhythmic patters, and the swashes of sound really do not "level out" when the loop hits - moving the looper to the middle of the board definitely helps even this out. and then maybe I'll use the DD7 at the end for a second looperHyphen Nation wrote:but really some of what you are talking about is the challenge of getting great loops. Yeah, if you are hitting it with reverb, at a minimum i'd put it ahead of that. That reset in the reverb decay is always going to sound too hard or too much like a hiccup.retinal orbita wrote:Yeah I'm not going to pretend I'm so awesome at guitar it's only my tools that are failing, but I usually use a fuck ton of reverb and make loops more for ambient droning than rhythmic patters, and the swashes of sound really do not "level out" when the loop hits - moving the looper to the middle of the board definitely helps even this out. and then maybe I'll use the DD7 at the end for a second looperHyphen Nation wrote:but really some of what you are talking about is the challenge of getting great loops.
