Ring mods can be a really cool and unobtrusive way to spice up the drones.

As can chorus--as Nadja's output would attest.

I use the bigger moogerfooger and it's an awesome pedal. It also does a great tremolo but for ring modulator tones, if you add an expression pedal, delay and reverb plus whatever you can take that tone to other worlds.

I'm GASing for a looper now. I've realized I'll never find another musician in my area who is down with doom/drone, so I'll have to figure a way to do it myself. Sucks that the only groups that really get shows around here are indie/dad rock bands and hip-hop artists, with some random metalcore circles here and there.

What kind of loopers are you all using?

Boomerang 3 + Sidecar and wholly roller. I also have a ditto for home use which is also great for most things. I had a Boss RC-3 but it killed my highs.

I have a 'Rang 3 as well, though I haven't picked up a Sidecar yet. I also have an Eventide Space for reverb looping, and I'd like to get a TimeFactor again - the loop algorithm on that is amazing, though I wish it had more looping time.

A single note, not even a chord can become a physically felt as well as emotional experience.

I think 'move air or gtfo' is a pretty good mantra for drone haha. I just feel like too many people concentrate on buying all the right equipment instead of concentrating on making something that's worth listening to. Even if that involves working within your limitations for the time being.

Do the rang's have stereo in and out? I'm kinda limited by that as far as making it work with my setup. that's why I couldnt be happy with the ditto. I'm planning on getting the digitech thing when it finally comes out. I'll do a review when it does.

I don't really mess with mine all that much, It works great for clean looping, but if I add dirt to it, it all turns into a compressed pile of shitty shit. I haven't figured out yet where to set the mix for it.

Seems only one person touched upon it, but getting an oscillator going is tits. I use a grendel drone commander, or a skychord sleepdrone 5 pedal. just tune the oscillator to what key you're in and the drone is on.

I was just watching that video yesterday and was thinking about getting one and running it through a few pedals. How does it sound with a single unit? I love the 4 together and some of the single unit clips sound good but not nearly as rich as this.

That album was made using almost exclusively the Drone Commander and pedals. A couple small parts some different synths or guitar was used but 97% of it is the DC

Saw the band aseethe this past weekend, the synth player had on of those grenedes, cant really say how it sounded cause I don't think he used it during the he never touched it. But those guys were drone tastic, I was literally frozen during their set.

I've got one. There is no input, just fyi. but it handles pedals fine, i like using an oto biscuit or skychord cloudbuster to get interesting textures. but i normally just run it straight no chaser, it's filter sounds sooo good. i prefer it over my skychord sleepdrone 5 which has 4 oscillators vs. the grendel's two.

that video kills me, i want to buy more more more

Here's another way to get a good grone going. With the moogerfooger freqbox you can just tune the VCO to the key you're in and you've got a steady drone to synch with your heavy droning note. You can detune the VCO a bit and get an even fatter sound between the drone from the moogerfooger and your guitar tone. this gets cool in that in and out of phase sound too if you work it right.
