I personally love his reuse of motifs. I smile whenever I recognize that kind of stuff.
The Downwar Spiral motif is fucking EVERYWHERE in his music, albeit slightly altered in many instances.

They make me smile too; but in the back of my head I'm wondering if we just ran out of ideas and had dead space to fill.

On a personal level; I tend to experiment with material I'm working with. It's to determine; rhythmically and tonally, what I like best. Often times I end up liking it all; so I wonder if there is some vicarious correlation there. So reprises in my own music is probably going to be inevitable.

And the Carly Simon "You're so vain" nod feels a little tacked on.

I also note that Into the Void is a reprise of La Mer. Not sure how I feel about that.

yeah, always thought that was really weak

Thanks for the videos you posted sir hoy. That rehearsal space looks excellent and I want a baritone now.

-Reznor's lyrics have always been shite. That's not a bad thing (I mean, I love the Doors), but it definitely is a thing.

-the whole idea of someone just listening to Downward Spiral trips me out.

-totally going to incorporate "hire a Walter" into more posts.

That must be what the guys who made the Music for him to sing over told him... "Hey Trent this one's more like that EDM kids are into"... :joy:

Explain this comment please.

Trent has and always will be the brain behind 90% of the music. He does use others sometimes but he's the only official member of NIN. Trent is NIN. I look at him more as a composer than anything. The man is fucking brilliant.

It's like that with a lot of bands but the image of Trent sitting in a studio plugging in a Metasonix Scrotum Smasher into a 4ms Atoner to get that perfect level of crunch on the Bass is just not what happens... It's the same for a lot of bands all throughout the modern history of recording but the whole Trent does this and makes that is silly... If he wants to come on and dispute or hire a Walter to come on argue that's cool but articles and pics and hearsay prove otherwise...

im intrigued...not to doubt sonidero here, but can we get some of those articles and pics to back this up

for a long time i have had this conspiracy theory about early/mid 90s mainstream alternative bands and this would go a long way to making my conspiracy theory seem less crazy

I mean, if you look at the liner notes there are a ton of extra musicians who perform, program and engineer on his records. So yes, it's not just him in the studio. But he's still the primary songwriter, he still performs on the records, he's still the conceptual leader. How much of all those things he does and how much other people do I couldn't say, but the credit is there.
