Come to think of it, what is your calorie intake? I was up to 3000 calories a day at one point, which is basically like an extra meal and a half a day; but really that extra meal felt more like the difference between being full for the day and feeling bloated before going to bed.
I don't know my caloric intake for sure since I eat mostly home-made foods. For breakfast I have a bowl of cereal or two slices of toast and jam with maybe a banana or a yoghurt. For lunch two or three hours later I might have a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese and a few biscuits. If there are mini pancakes I might have a couple with some butter and maple syrup. They're only small and I only have them when I can be bothered to buy them. For dinner I'll have whatever is being cooked by my mum or I'll cook myself something. We eat a huge variety of food, from sweet potato korma, spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry, roast chicken, baked potatoes and salad, bacon and egg, steak and pasta, etc. etc. It's not super healthy, fat-free food, but I don't intend to change from eating that type of thing for another couple of months because it's good food that was never the problem. Once I've hit the barrier where I'm not losing any more weight by just cutting down on my food intake, I'll start a proper diet. My intention is to do what my sister's boyfriend is doing, who is training to be a boxer. In the morning he'll basically boil a bunch of brown rice, fry a chicken breast, add some coleslaw, and eat about 8 mouthfuls throughout the day in two-three hour intervals. In the morning he'll have porridge and maybe something sweet but small as a treat closer to bedtime. He's lost over two stone in a really short space of time. He needs to be a very specific weight by a certain date so he's being strict.

you mention wanting to put on muscle to help reduce fat loss - it sounds like you want to do both but you won't really do both efficiently (you can zig-zag, but that's mediocre according to most who have tried, including me).
Decide what you want to do first.
As far as the food goes chicken curry's okay but there might be stuff like.. more rice than you really need and fat sauce etc on it which ruins it (kind of), spaghetti is just a bad idea basically, steak and sauteed vegetables sounds okay as long as you don't gobble down beer with it
To add - there's no way you'll be breaking the laws of physics unless you have a serious disease/thyroid issues etc (90% of people who think they have really don't - statistics made up while writing this).
Eat less and move around more and you WILL lose weight, no way around it. boxing is fucking awesome.

MMA instructor =started doing more MMA myself last week. MMA is very taxing when it comes to calories, i have no problem believing you actually ate 3000 kcals, i also have no problem believing you also burned it off when you added weight lifting to the mix. eat more

The only reason why I thought I would have lost more weight by now is because my sister's boyfriend did when all he was doing was cutting back on eating huge amounts and drinking a bunch. Also, if I ever get a tummy bug for two weeks I lose a bunch of weight, and I've been trying to eat about that amount, just a little bit more. Whenever I was ill I would still eat even when I felt sick, just because I was that obsessed with food and in such a habit of it. You know what it can be like: we can eat and eat until we feel ill, and we'll hate ourselves for doing it but do it again the next day. I was like that. I'm surprised I didn't become even bigger. I imagine I would have as I became older and my metabolism gradually and naturally slowed down.
As far as gaining muscle as well as losing weight, I don't really care about losing weight. I should have clarified that I just don't want to be fat any more. I'm not fat-fat. I'm just not skinny like I should to be. I don't want to be skinny either, but I'd certainly take that over what I am now. Ideally I'd like to put on muscle mass, and thus weight, as well as losing fat. BUT... I trust you so if I had to choose which I wanted the most I would say lose fat, without a doubt. Muscle gaining can weight (geddit?!). I want to have a flat stomach again, to lose the love handles, the sagging chin, and whatever else that needs 'toning up'. I know you hate that word but whatever.

By the way, although I don't look like I've lost weight and my scales seem to be saying I've added weight, it was a warm day today and I was chopping up some wood in preparation for the winter. I decided to change into my shorts and when I did I automatically went to button them up... and they buttoned up! These are the shorts that two months ago would not button up comfortably. Now I barely notice them buttoned.
