That last one's nice. Sound like slightly earlier KT? Maybe just less reverb washedout than I remember his later stuff.

Yeah, I like this last one better too. Not sure where these dubs fall in the Tubby lineage, it's always difficult to tell from these compilation releases. They are a little more sparse sounding though.

This is my favorite dub album, an all time classic. I think it's the best dub album of all time (in my limited experience). It's very primal. It's like pure essence of dub. It's a cooker all the way through, no weak spots. Somebody posted a different Upsetters album (Lee Perry) - check this one. (Note: "Return of the Super Ape" is not as good - some people say it's a better album. It's not. This is the best one)

The aforementioned Burning Spear "Marcus Garvey/Garvey's Ghost" is an all-time classic. Reggae versions on one side, dub versions of the same songs on the other side.

King Tubby is probably the top dub artist - I haven't heard any weak tracks from him. Lee Perry is awesome too, however he does have a bunch of half-baked releases (songs end abruptly, songs seem unfinished, etc). Back in the day, dub imports were 20 dollars, and it sucks when you get a record home and it's disappointing. So the Super Ape album is special - every track is killer. It's an album where Lee Perry's vision is fully realized.

The golden age of dub was the mid-70's. Modern stuff doesn't have the same vibe. Just like modern rockabilly, it sounds too slick or something.

I have... never listened to the original Super Ape. Rectifying that now.

edit: and one of my favorite basslines ever is featured on it (Croaking Lizard), apparently, although I know it best from a much newer Lee Perry album:
