Been busy! Took some time to make a winter home for the cats! Two levels and insulated!
Image

About to put the roof on! They love the house and sleep in it every night and day.
Image

Never should have let the cats unionize. Darn nap breaks! That guitar isn't going to buff itself!

Bruce likes to sleep hardcore!

Getting some nameplates ready.

This is the special order ft27! It will get shipped out tomorrow! Sounds wonderful!

Closer shot.

I was also able to get one of the ft75s done and delivered to the friend who ordered it. Here it is next to his wife's ft27. What an attractive pair!

Just working on getting the bridges glued on the rest of them. Hopefully I'll be able to get tuners ordered for the rest within the week!

I was able to order tuners and strings today. They should all be here sometime next week which means the acoustics will be strung and ready to roll!
well.....they'll still need pickups (for those that desire them) and cases....but I'll figure that out later!!!

Haha I understand! I am STILL waiting on the tuners for the 75s! In the meantime I will get the last 2 ft30s done and the ft27. I am asking around as to whether any stores have the tuners I need for the 75s and if they'd let me grab them and replace them when mine come in just so I can get them done sooner!

BLARG!
Last night I took the FT27 up to the workshop to get strings on it etc. I put it on the bench and immediately see a problem on the bottom.
(I don't have pics at the moment. I'm writing this on ye crappy ol' cell phone)
I'll describe the horror. At the "butt" of the guitar (where the sides join) one of the sides had mostly detached from the tail block. finish damage, the top had a weird stepped appearance/buldge and the back as well.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out what had happened especially since there had never been string tension on them.
I figured something odd had happened and while I am bummed that I have one ruined guitar, one ruined guitar wouldn't ruin me.
I ended up taking the parts off ot the 27 and put them on the natural 75 (which is a real looker might I add)
This morning I went to check on the 75 and noticed a wet spot inside the guitar.
You see my basement is super dry and lately I haven't had the $ for a humidifier. So I took some sponges, wet them (not too wet...or so I thought), put them in zip lock bags with holes poked in, and I placed then in the guitars and placed the guitars in trash bags so as to keep them from drying out.
Well seeing the wet spot inside the ft75 suddenly put a knot in my stomach. I ripped off trash bags and quickly pulled all the sponges out of the guitars.
4 of them show no signs of trouble. 5 of them developed some finish cracking (which I am fixing now) and two of them (both little mahogany bodies) are more serious.
I realized the sponges ended up sitting in one spot and all the moisture leaked out and absorbed into that area on the bottom of the guitar. It caused the side to swell and bend and crack finish and pop glue joints.
Sheesh my own stupidity.
So I am monitoring them now. The 4 that show no problems should stay that way. (I also ran a hair dryer inside them to help get rid of the extra moisture).
The others that had finish cracks should also be fine. now that the source of moisture is removed and air has circulated they shouldn't get to the point of glue joints failing.
One ft27 and one ft20 are for sure beyond saving.
One ft20 might be savable! It would end up being sold as a second and not have a warranty but would be pretty cheap.
I'll get pics soon and keep us all up to date on the situation.
I'm bummed that my well-meaning act of keeping the guitars from drying out caused a couple to self-destruct. Lesson learned! Hopefully it doesn't turn into a more costly lesson!

Right you are! What would have REALLY sucked is if I hadn't figured it out as soon as I did as I would have ended up losing them all. Then I would have been royally f'd.

Okay so evaluating the situation with fresh eyes here is where we are at.
3 guitars are totally unscathed! Phew!
6 guitars only had a teensy amount of finish cracking on the rim near the tailblock. A couple applications of butyl cellosolve and a couple coats of aerosol lacquer and the cracks have melted back together and will level and buff out no problem!
There is potential good news on the 3 damaged guitars. I'm not sure if the wood will contract again but even if it doesn't I can see that no critical areas have popped loose.
After I know they are stabilized I will get them put back together as best as they can be and then perhaps I will offer them here at a steep discount just so they get played and not burned.
We shall see!!!
Oh and today I got a decent humidifier for the room the guitars are in so we can avoid any future problems! Shoulda just bought one to begin with. SHEESH!
