Yea I think for a JM, go Mascis all the way, however I'm a Jag guy, I can only hope, like you rfurtkamp, that the $100 isn't a $200 in differences between the Mascis and these.

Can we call them SOGs?

Now I'm stuck. I'm eventually going to have to find a place which has both to demo.

I can't stop thinking about these and which one I'm going [to go further in to debt] to purchase first.

I know. If it weren't for the family austerity budget, it would be one of each. I'd call it even odds of convincing the missus to let me get one for my birthday, but I wouldn't feel right pushing that. So these better stay in production.

Two out of three are up on the Fender site, the Jazzmaster and the Mustang:

Shame that the Jag is a no-show. Maybe that'll be fixed, maybe not.

Can see the Jag getting axed for cost, the extra hardware and routing and whatnot might have pushed it over the edge for now.

I could see that. I hope it joins the party eventually, though.

Yea, I'd think it would - or they're saving it for once production capacity is up on the other two.

Cheap Mustang is an absolute godsend, even though I have a perfectly fine MIJ '69RI. There's been a demand for cheap Mustangs for >10 years now....

i'm surprised they didn't make these in the 90s when nirvana and all the indie rock fuzz gods started slingin these things around.

I think the intent was to do the Jagstang and the Squier Venus stuff at the time.

Until the mid-90s it just wasn't practical to put out a cheaperish Mustang, vintage ones were still cheap as sin for a long long time and if I was Fender I'd have been afraid of the bubble effect on prices.

import production wasn't nearly as good or as cheap then as it is now, only reason import Strats and Teles were so cheap was they were the cloned Model T of dirt cheap pricing from Cort etc. and the big Korean makers.

Don't think a $400 new Squier Mustang would have flown - the Squier Venuses and Pro Tones weren't exactly hot sellers at higher price points at the time.

my understanding from cross-forum sources is that the Jaguars will also roll out in the next few days. fingers crossed.

Would be a waste of the brick wall of shame to not make the Jaguars available!
