Possibly a issue with the calibration on my pedal specifically but if you push the tune/delay or width knobs anywhere past 12 o'clock it produces the most annoying high pitched, swarm of insect clock whining I've ever heard from any pedal, ever. Totally unusable.
Most likely an isolated incident as I can't imagine EHX sending 'em all out like this. Regardless, I'm going with the new Mid-Fi Pitch Pirate Deluxe. About done with EHX, for realz!
Is it another situation with the 9.6 volt supply? Every EHX pedal I've owned that needed this special adapter sucked when it came to the noize floor.

Why bother releasing a shitty product? I guess boxes stopped getting played/tested, when they stopped hand building them.

Man shitty results to go along with the shitty graphic design............JK!

Not sure exactly, EHX didn't specify an "issue" really. I'm leery about the change in power on the some of the XO stuff myself. I like the idea of the 9V power so it doesn't hog two outs on my supplies but if the end result is this nonsense, keep it 24V please.

I guess so. No way this could've been tested beyond making sure the fucking thing turned on/off.

I know, right?
I could handle EHX spoiling all these cool old school graphics
IF the trade off was the smaller enclosure
AND a pedal that was somewhere close to the original, sonically speaking. This one is smaller, that's about it.

Yeah it's their funky 9.6 volt power supply's that they send out. I've tried to run the pedal on a regular 9v power brick, or even daisy chain it, but their pedals still crave their 9.6v power supplies. Kinda stupid really. They should just put them on 9v or 24v (my qtron+ is 24v and I've never had a problem with it) and just be done.

I think that 9.6V rating is for the supply alone, without any load. Much like the rating on a fresh 9V battery, usually measures slightly higher. I've had no issues with a POG2 on a 9V 250mA out from a PP2+ BUT it's a fact that EHX stuff hates any form of daisy chain/OneSpot/DC Brick. Not sure why...
Regardless, I never made it that far with this one. Tested with the supplied adapter and it sounded like shit from the get go. Rotated a couple other 9.6V adapters, guitars, used it in the chain and on it's own, all with bad results.

Random, but the danelectro power supplies are 9.6v too. I bought a couple brand new from a pawnshop for like $6 a piece. Use one with my small stone. The rest of my pedals are on the onespot (including a memory boy) with no issues.

I'd say don't believe the hype but there wasn't any.

Holy Schnikes wrote:It's actually on it's way to EHX for replacement, just dropped it off at UPS. Apparently they've received some complaints and it's not a simple issue of trim adjustment. I'd be happy to throw one up of the replacement, iPhone-style. Customer support assures me it will be indistinguishable from the big box when I receive a properly constructed XO. We'll see...
The sound was god awful though, high-pitched electrical buzzing/whining that rang out over everything once the delay was pushed just a bit. Sounded like a POG with only upper octaves engaged plus fizz/buzz so bad you wanted to smash it into tiny pieces.
Sounds like Aliasing, probably just an initial batch issue then, you don't miss that shit in a design so it was most likely a PCB, component mistake from the fab house that wasn't tested after the initial prototypes were confirmed good.
The EHX power supply thing... there is no reason at all for it to be true, as long as you give them a well filtered, correct voltage with a decent mA power supply then they would act the same on any supply, most issues probably come from house hold wiring or yeah pedals can interact on daisy chain.
R.G Keen, the desinger of the one spot, would check EHX pedals on it, he is very thorough in his designs and has talked about its construction in the past and he has never mentioned an issue with EHX pedals on the supply.

I've had issues running EHX Holy Stain, SMMH and Ring Thing at 9V, rather than 9.6V.

I had an old one years ago and loved it but had to sell it to get some cash.
The foot print of it is huge but the new XO version sounds lame and looks trashy.
It should have looked like this and been the same size as a Black arts size pedal.
I did a visual mock up to show you how I mean. Is that possible?

I would buy this like a shot! The mode button needs text and it is just a cut and paste job but looks pretty sweet.

Yea, that looks much better^ stays with the classic vibe. I don't mind the way the new one looks though, tbh.
