How do you guys like your el caps?

It sounds AWESOME! But I think I'm a victim of the GAS bug. I kinda have buyers remorse.

At this point it's kinda hard to justify a $300 delay. I'm gonna keep it around for a little longer and really run it through the paces and make a decision then.

BUT this thing really does sound tits money!

This is why i can never pull the trigger on really expensive effects. I know it will probably sound awesome but Im really good at over thinking a purchase after its said and done.

How dark/bright is the delay? Ive had both an EQD Disaster transport and a deluxe memory boy, but they both had very dark repeats so they sort of got lost in the mix. Ive been looking at the el capistan but i'm wondering if id be better of with a bright digital delay instead. But then again, the looper function is almost worth the money. The loop junky is actually more expensive i think.

As I understand it, the brightness/darkness/saturation of the repeats is controllable. Adjust to taste, yo.

If you want a good bright or dark delay, check out the 616!

Eh, the 616 oscillates way too easily. It is very bright, of course, but I had to stop using it. It's by far the least controllable delay pedal I've ever used, and consequently the least usable. And I sent it to Malekko to fix, too.
I never used the e300 or the e600 though... Those might be real awesome.
I've been playing a Deluxe Memory Boy for a while now, and I agree that it gets very muddy very quickly. All the different functions are awesome, but I wish the tone of the repeats was cleaner and brighter. I was using a Boss DD-7 live to get clean repeats, but I've already sold it to make room for the Capistan. I'm a delay junky, and I'm real excited to see how this thing sounds, y'know?

For live use, the DD-7 would work. It sounded great in my band's mix, and we've got drums, three vocals, two guitars, bass, and a keyboard. It's got a tap tempo, but it can be a pain to access on the fly. You can get a tap expression pedal, though, and that'll work fine.

I think you'll LOVE the elcap! It can be set to get pretty dark or pretty bright.

Also, in regards to the 616. The oscillation IS very sensitive. The way it works though, is the faster the delay time, the quicker it goes into OSC. The slower, the slower into OSC. So on a faster slap back setting, you've gotta set your repeats to just past noon, and increase as you increase your time. So it DOES oscillate very easily, but it's really only to cover your delay range. The thing is too, depending on how hot your signal is, will determine if it oscillates easier. Either way, it's probably my favorite delay.

I haven't received mine yet... why does Cali have to be so far away? I'm no too worried about the whole buyers remorse thing. I'm going from a Superdelay to the El Cap, and from what I've read and what people have said (who've had both), the El Cap does everything I wished the SD could do. I mostly just used the tape delay setting on the SD, and I was always bummed that the modulation wasn't adjustable. I could never get enough mod out of it, and this coming from someone who despised most modulation up until recently.

Needless to say, I have a big empty spot on my board that I am excited to have filled again. I'm a huge delay junkie too, and it's been difficult not having a solid delay for the past couple weeks.

I'll admit that it sounds really great when it's used properly. And it's real cheap. I actually gave it to my bandmate because he uses it really well. It sounds way awesome on our record, which we're still finishing up. I think that mine might have been problematic, because occasionally I'd have it on a very straight-forward setting that was nowhere near oscillation, and it would faintly start to oscillate if I'd stop playing. It gave me a few kind of moments at a gig and I just decided to ditch the thing. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I couldn't get along with it live. He loves the thing, though.

Man, I can't wait to get the elcap.

I scored an E600D about a week ago..before that, my only experience with delay was an EHX Hazarai and a Pitchfactor..and holy cow, I'm not sure if all high-end delays are this awesome, but this thing is the tits. I don't see myself ever needing TWO delays, but we'll see as far as each of these work for my playing

I guess I'm just pissed that you can set a loop and let it loop! Everything you play puts it into it's loop. I didn't put two and two together, and just figured I'd be able to set a loop and play over it. So when I do a loop I have to run that sweet lofi loop into my m9 for it to really be a reasonable loop.

Not always true!
If you power up in Trails mode and leave the repeats knob high, the trails will continue with the pedal in bypass, so you can play over them.

Though I'm wondering once you turn the bypass back on, if you can go and record more into the loop...I'll let you know on Monday!
