I don't think so. If the common ground of the scene is the place and not this or that style of music I think it's pretty awesome. I used to live in Bonn where there were many active musicians for such a small town. Everyone took turns supporting each other and playing in bands or little sideprojects with each other. It was awesome.

On the other hand it had all the disadvantages. I for example didn't like one particular band cause the bassist was my ex and the drummer owed me money.
