I think it's the new work from home thing. Businesses were worried that productivity would fall through the floor, but shocker of all shocker...people are desperately clinging to their jobs and are stuck at home so they are working more...and productivity is through the roof.
as for the offerings...big ol' yawn for me.
It's the 4th quarter of the year. Some companies release pedals every year around late August/mid-September. If you were trying to space your releases out, it makes sense to unveil something around January (Winter NAMM), late spring (pre-summer touring), then early fall (pre-Black Friday), and then you're back at January (Winter NAMM) again in 3 more months.
I think because so many shops in the US haven't been able to work at full-capacity, we saw fewer 2nd quarter & summer releases. Now with trade shows still cancelled and shops ramping up production again, we'll start to see releases which may be have been postponed (combined with stuff that was already scheduled for a fall release).
There's likely some lockdown-fueled pedals on the way, but many companies take over a year to breadboard, trouble-shoot, and refine new pedals. The new stuff, people tinkered on during down time, is unlikely to be released until next year. (unless you're a small builder who makes limited batches)
