I was really excited, but saw the mounting stuff before NAMM and the final construction just strokes me as cheesy. But I also have a bias against plastics (and it is somewhat irrational I guess...just hate that everything has plastic haha).

Yea, when I saw the price I backed down. I think it went up 50-100 dollars. But I think it is really cool. They just needed to take it up one notch in design to really get me to justify it (but I don't know what that step would be).

Dang, was typing this up as you posted
I think the high price suggests they're trying to recoup their development funds back too rapidly. I get that they spent a substantial amount of time retooling this, investing in mold fees, et cetera, but you can't get it all back right away. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by asking for this much right out of the gate.

When you factor in all the accessories, it looks like this is more like $500-550. If you compare that to the versatility of a MIDI synth, it seems hard to justify the pricing. You could get a used GR-55 or a Minilogue for the same price point and have hundreds of bonus sounds compared to the Gizmotron II.

I don't know if they're being greedy at this price point, or if they simply over-extended themselves upfront and are desperately trying to recover as quickly as possible. Either way this seems like a disastrous recipe.

Gizmotron is really a nice idea, but at this point it's sheer novelty.

Black Cat is apparently flirting with the idea of revisiting the Psychedelic Machine (Electra/Honey/Companion).

It may also be worth noting that a U.S. company has recently acquired the rights to the Companion/Honey/Shin-Ei names and is planning to relaunch a vibe circuit, as (*sighs*) the Vibe-Bro. I'm not sure if they're going to do a Psychedelic Machine or a Resly/Phase (Leslie) Tone as well, or just a Univibe type of circuit.

Agree for the most part which is why I'm out haha. I do think they are just trying to pay off overhead, development, and tooling...but that is, in some ways, an old business model. I know they paid a ton to get those German motors developed and paid for industrial testing which is awesome...but it is just too high.

I don't think they are trying to rip people off but they looked at their costs and the going rate for some pedals/gear and thought it was probably an OK price (and realistically in gear terms, if you use it enough, it isn't that bad I guess). Then you are fighting:

Which is kinda true. I think even at 250-300 would be fine to get people to go for a novelty haha...

I wish them well and hope they drop the price a bit. I thought it would have been cool, but I just can't justify it...
Plus double stick tape...never never never use double stick tape unless you are trying to keep your costume of gown together in Hollywood. Haha

Also, having to be plugged into power sucks. They should have put a battery or included a rechargeable pack

Not many new gadgets captured my attention this year, which is probably a good thing! I am quite attracted to the Ryan Jarman Squier as the idea of acquiring a burgundy mist offset has always appealed to me.

I would love a gizmotron @ that price range. Did they actually end up sending these out to people or did every back out?

The preorder list was more or less just a mailing list...there wasn't any money or actual names taken (just like the original preorder list for the Mu-Fx Boostron III...which later asked for money after being on a special separate mailing list).

I don't think they have sent out a unit yet. I got the e-mail for the gizmotron right after NAMM with the buy link (can't remember exactly) and when I looked I felt like they went up from the original price estimate...but I could just be misremembering (I talked to someone at some point...might have to bump the actual thread we have for this)...but maybe I was just thinking that the presale would have a bit ($50) price break or something? haha.

Also, it was delayed by a few months (I was originally told it was supposed to come out in November or something) and it just got released. I don't know if the other people on the list actually went through with it (I knew a few people on it) but I was really excited...but that double stick tape...that ruined it haha

The wheels on the gizmotron supposedly have 100hours of use each...10minutes a string a day (guesstimate) Probably get 1 to 2 years out of them if you ain't droning on for hours at a time.

Still think it is neat though.
