I brought them up 'cause they are sometimes listed in with the others as a jam band.

well, to be fair, they
do noodle a lot, if at a much greater rate of speed than your typical jam band. and Les has done a number of jam-band side projects, including Oysterhead and the various Flying Whatchamacallit bands where he's done stuff like cover "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."

Sousie's Jam Band Law: if it annoys like a Jam Band, sucks like a jam band, and has annoying fans who greatly over rate the music by said band with grossly inflated statements pertaining to the composition of the songs and the muical ability of the band's members, then it must be a jam band.

I'm definitely not a big fan or anything. Bugt Les IS a pretty badass bass player. DMV is a bitch to play.

Primus's DVD from the Hallucinogenetics tour is half-full of extended jams, and if you think that DMV is hard, try John The Fisherman or To Defy... sometime. And I REALLY hope that Oysterhead gets back together, at least now and then.

I think everyone know that REALLY annoying people that try to use insanely big words just so others won't know what they're talking about. You know...like where they care more for the really complicated words that they use and not so much for the points they're making. You're just kinda sitting there say "why the fuck are you being such a douche? Does your point suck so much that your tactic is to confuse the people you're talking to?" Everyone knows someone like that, right?
Well that's what players like Les Claypool are. Yes, what they play is complicated. But most of the time it's just crazy random shit that doesn't even sound good. It's like they're incapable of hearing what, when played with other instruments, creates amazing music. They try to dazzle people with they're amazingly fast a complicated playing so that the listener doesn't realize how sloppy and jumbled together the actual music is. I'm not the biggest Tool fan, but their stuff is relatively simple...not blistering technique....not a lot of crazy shit....just stuff that sounds fucking awesome when all put together. The entire ensemble grows and morphs during a song...not everything stays stagnant but one player. That's what I like. That's like a group of people hanging out and having a good conversation that evolves. Claypool is that douche that tries to jump in a use a bunch of technical jargon to hide how autistic he sounds.

I love Mr. Claypool, but I've always found it infuriating to watch him play American Life or Tommy the Cat. Every thing just seems so effortless.
I didn't really have much trouble with John The Fisherman. It was one of the first Primus songs I learned.

It's cool. I love punk/ska. That gives up a ton of fodder to bash on.
