vidret:

I don't know if I'm doing squats right because I don't feel stressed at all. I've just tried them out with your directions and it's not hard compared to other body weight exercises. I do have pretty big legs, so maybe it's a natural function for me and I'm blessed in that regard. Or maybe I'm not doing them right and I'm cheating somewhere in the movement. I don't think I am. However, I don't particularly feel a stretch like I do with other exercises.

It took me a few tries, but I understand what you mean regarding the pushups. I'll make sure to keep my elbows in more when doing them from now on. More arrow; less 'T'.

I do very little stretching, but I'll do more. I try to flex quite a bit, like in between sets while catching my breath, as it helps fill the muscles with oxygen and blood, but doesn't really tire them out that much. I'm not sure how true that is, but it feels like it's the case.

The most crucial thing for me is to lose my fat. I struggle to maintain a healthy diet, but I can work out each day. I have a decent routine worked up and I actually enjoy it. If I miss a day then I make arrangements to work out another day, like the weekends. At first I wasn't like that, but as I progressed and became stronger I started to enjoy working out more. The pump, as they say, started feeling nice.

As far as calorie counting, I have no aversion to it, but I know I'll fail at it. I have too much of a sweet tooth. With that said, apart from the junk food I eat, I do consume plenty of healthy foods, such as spinach, tuna, chicken, cottage cheese, peanuts, vegetables, fruit, etc., but I also eat chocolate, ice-cream, cakes and crisps.

I don't have a bar where I work out. Sorry, I must have misinformed you somewhere along the way. Conversing in this way isn't ideal. I hope to pick up a bar and some plates to finally expand my range and work on Deadlifts, but for the moment I only have a broken chin-up bar and a set of light dumbbells. I need a exercise ball, an incline bench, and a barbell.

But thanks for the guideline on when to work out and what to do. As I said above, it took me a few reads through to understand what you were saying, but I get it. Thanks a lot for the help!

Skip and T-Rey...so i'm only new to this dad thing...my Dylan is only 4 months old. When it came to music we started with classical and just relaxation music as my wife was doing Hypnobirthing (which i highly recommend, if you want more info PM me, happy to explain)...but after a while we compromised and e started listening to Segovia, so i was happy with that. We stuck with that stuff until he was about a month old and i started to introduce JJ Cale, Albert King, some persian folk music, Opeth (Damnation), George Benson...basically anything thats not too harsh.

I just hope he likes good music, and has eclectic taste...but at the end of the day...he'll like what he likes...i can only help direct...strongly help! ;)

On the circumcision thing...we were actually all for it, and were even looking into it just before we gave birth...but when he was born and we saw him and bonded...there was no way i was going to let sharp object near my child!

Dan: on the exercise, from the few years that i use to train, i always did opposing exercises on the same day...my routine as:
Day 1 Chest and Back
Day 2 Cardio and Abs
Day 3 Shoulders and Forearms
Day 4 Cardio and Abs
Day 5 Biceps and Triceps
Day 6 Legs
Day 7 Rest

I got this routine from a guy i use to go to gym with who was training for Mr Australia contest, at the time i was training for professional wrestling, i had dreams of being in the WWF!

Darren: What are you making with all those boards?

And Nick talking about Jr Dunwich gear...you guys seen these new pedals? Thats an iPhone 5 under the 3 pedals!

Thanks for the advice!

squats aren't going to kill you unless you have a bar, i was just saying how they should be performed anyhow - so that when you have the bar you've already got the movement down.
any grown man should attain at least his own weight on the bar in the squat, anything less and and i wouldn't call that man strong.

PM me if you have questions or we can do this on skype sometime, i'm totally cool with helping out - i'm just sad i can't be there and show it in the gym too so that i'm 100% you get what i'm saying :thumb:

I've never tried squatting with that much weight, but I'll work my way up to it. We all have to start somewhere.

And thanks for the offer. I may actually take you up on that sometime. I'll PM you if and when.

Tuck and roll Kustoms are rad, it'll be fine for the low end in a stereo guitar setup.

^I meant to post that in the ebay thread.

That Kustom Tuck & Roll 200 is pretty sweet. Never tried one, but I've always heard good things. 70's solid state is usually pretty solid.

jeez, i'll never be able to keep up.

i'm 56. i know there's at least one ILFer older than me, but don't remember if he posts in here or not.

compressors of the Ross/MXR variety aren't very useful to me because they're such one-trick devices. for me a compressor needs an Attack and a Release control to be really useful, and Ratio is nice too.

tuck/roll Kustoms rule.

there are actually practical arguments for circumcision, the most prominent being that uncircumcised men contract HIV and other STDs more easily; they've actually introduced circumcision in some parts of Africa in recent years as part of anti-AIDS efforts. i don't really care what people do with their wangs, but think it'd be fair to wait until the child has sufficient free will and mentation to decide whether he wants his tackle redacted.

my big mystery in the weiner-alteration debate is the claims that one's penis is "less/more sensitive" depending on whether the member is circumcised. have there been, like, tests where people went from point A to point B and then filled out ScanTron cards about their relative sensitivity? seems conjectural.

my circumcized penis feels:
O not very sensitive
O barely not very sensitive
O barely sensitve
O definately sensitve
O barely definately very sensitve
O definately very sensitive
O all or none or/and barely definately all of the above

(please fill in one or all or none of the above)

Baha!, Nice Ryan, a cock sensitivity survey.
OK, so I've jumped in way too late, again...but I don't think circumcision is medically necessary anymore. I agree with Captain on that stuff.
On the subject of it being culturally justifiable, the only question I would ask anyone to ask themselves is "how involved in your religion/cultural background are you/your partner, and is it worth the procedure if the answer is one that goes beyond a mere matter of fitting in? Personally I feel that if you're doing a good job as a parent then your giving your kids enough self esteem to basically say to the other kids at the trough/in the locker room "yeah, my dick is uncut, stop looking at my junk". I don't know anybody that has really ever made a big deal about that shit and if they did, you'd be questioning their motives. Having said that though, I do understand that it just isn't a big deal in Australia and that high school in America appears to be some kind of brutal political Game of Thrones played by arseholes. There's all the other cultural alienation that comes with it though, and I understand that. I'm trying to raise my children atheist and all my wife and I get is static from my mum and my nana (who are VERY Catholic), its annoying, but you gotta raise YOUR kids the way YOU want to. They are yours, fuck what other people think, raise them to inherit the shitty world our grandparents and parents have left use and then to change it for the better.
My brother in law's partner died the other day and we've been trying to work out how to explain it to our 2yo without saying "heaven" or "she's gone to sleep". It's tough.
Sorry, I'm way to passionate on the subject of raising independent thinkers. Children are a blank canvas, adults should be too I think. Have an open mind and make decisions that make sense, may benefit all of us and don't harm others, above all.
It sounds like you guys are all over that, though.
If this is your first my advice to you now is to enjoy sleep while you can. It will be a fond memory.

Vidret, totally gonna suss your routine there, Sam too, thanks guys.

Those pedals were cute. Yes, I said cute.

Definitely sensitive :D

Heading to NYC and Boston to visit fam and support our friend Lisa who qualified for the marathon. We'll have a couple days in NYC, I am not bringing a guitar and will probably be suffering severe withdrawals. What are some good shops to check out that I can maybe jam on something for a few minutes and get my fix? (This is not a veiled drug thing, really want to play guitars)

It is also the scariest, most humbling thing when you're the one on the mic. Oh god.

Soon! And you are first in line as I have mentioned. No pressure of course I know you just bought a MASSIVE AMP.

Also the company name is no longer black hand analog. From here on out I operate as ELECTRIC HEAT

Skip! I know nothing of The Body. Yob posted that on fb yesterday and I liked it. Noisily good!

Used to live in AR, then RI, now...Oregon, I think? Two piece megadoom. Check out their previous record with the Assembly of Light Choir.

AngryGoldfish wrote:Sorry to change the subject, folks, but does anyone know how to plan a workout schedule for home? I've been working out for about three months now and I'm stronger than I used to be and can see a very small increase in my physical form. I want to take things to the next step and quicken the pace at which my muscles are growing and becoming stronger. I have a five-day schedule that entails shoulders and chest on Monday, abdominals on Tuesday, biceps (with cardio supersets) on Wednesday, triceps and back on Thursday, and legs on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are rest days or days or when I work on cardio if I can bothered or have the energy.

What exercises should I be doing first? Should I be mixing muscle groups? Should I worry more about losing the fat and toning up rather than building muscle mass?

I've been doing a modified Starting Strength for the last four months. Highly recommended. I'm gradually adding a bit more muscle-specific stuff in, as I'm less interested in being able to hurl around tons of iron than I am having a decent body. Midsection is still soft, but everything else is coming along nicely. I squat 3x a week, and as a result have added more chest/bis/shoulders so I don't wind up lopsided.

Also, don't cut your kid's dick. Seriously. It's a weird bronze age ritual that's just creepy. My .02.
