Honestly Behndy, I'm willing to bet that it's exactly what MSU said here.
Tool has some of the most douchey, over-zealous, infuriating fans in the world. Not only do they endless proselytize to everyone about how awesome Tool is, but they also think they listen so much
deeper than anyone else.

I bet at some point, you had one of these intolerable fucking Tool disciples try to sell you on the band, and it turned you off for good. It happens a lot. It's fucking awful, and it totally makes me

about liking them so much. I almost dread admitting to people that I like Tool, because I don't want them to think I'm one of those douche-nozzles.
The one thing I will say in Tool's defense though, is that the band-members totally can't stand their fans, either. That is straight from the horse's mouth. But it's not like you can tell the fucktards to stop liking your band.
oh, and Sublime fucking sucks donkey scrote.

Heh, Sublime will forever be that band that I know all the lyrics to, 'cause we listened to them 1001 times.
But Rx Bandits>Sublime. Always will be.

I'm like that with all bands. That's why I can't listen to Nirvana anymore. I got tired of everyone talking about how Kurt was such a god at everything he did. My thoughts were that Dave Grohl was ten times the player Kurt ever was, but that's a different issue.
Don't bad mouth Tool though or I hate you. Tool is one band that the hype justifies. They have gotten better as the years progressed. I don't like how big on themselves they are or how Maynard doesn't even try at concerts anymore, but my God they're amazing. If you've ever been to a Tool show, you know this. I can't think of a single song they've made that I did not like, and that's saying a lot.
So yea. Fuck the haters. Also fuck the wannabees. I would love to play like Justin, but it will never happen. Number #1 he's ten times the player I could ever hope to be, #2 his gear is WAY too expensive. I can get a pretty good Tool tone without very much, I'm not sure why he can't. hahaha. Fucking bastard ass talented fucker.

The best thing Nirvana ever did was Monkey Wrench. Yes. I know. That was on purpose.

Yeah. That was how Muse was for me. They actually have some nice songs. Bass player is pretty cool. I spent years avoiding them because their fans are just like that.
Or....I will postulate another hypothesis. Behndy once had sex with a white chick....and all they did was missionary....she wouldn't let him at the taint. While Behndy's worst nightmare was coming to fruition, Tool was being played all low-like on the radio. He's now classically conditioned like a Pavlovian dog to curl his lip at Tool like he's about to have missionary sex with a white chick.....of age......

Its really not that bad the most expensive pieces are his bass and amp. you can definitely get a wal tone from a different bass and most people prob. dont need the high powered GK heads.
I dig his tone it just seems to be lacking a little for me. mines better

just not nearly as loud

I dig Tool. I've got no beef with Sublime (but they're one of those bands who listened to much better music than they made). In Utero is a phenomenal record.

Nirvana is cool. I might have a bit of a hard time listening to side A of Nevermind but other than that i like them, a lot of pre Dave Grohl is great too. In Utero is sick though...Kurt Cobain was no guitar hero, he was a decently prolific songwriter. Like it or not, he changed music in the early 90s. Yes, he does wear some influences on his sleeve, some of which I like more than Nirvana, but whatever. Tool is bad ass, cool me a douche if you must. I don't believe that I have to nail Justin Chancellor's tone, but it is a good one. Just like Timmy C. from RATM has a good tone that I like.
More TB douchebaggery, related to me. I can't believe that I still am LOVING the B3K...I had one before and was a hater. Different amp and different bass = fucking sweet. If I had to, I could be okay with that being my only dirt. Don't get me wrong, MountainKing is not leaving my board.
Damnit, I am still really into my Zoom B3 as well. Such a cool $200 multi.
GULP, I could do a whole set with the B3K and B3...what has happened to me?

Oh yeah. I'll rag on it, but the B3K is a cool little OD. Not a tube pedal, at all. People kinda are misinformed on that point. But a cool little OD.
And I love Tool. Great band.
But you, sir, are getting a little TOO TBy for this thread. If you say anything about getting a wah sound from my finger technique, I'll have to motion to get you exiled.

See, I can't do Zoom multi's... because back when I started playing electric instruments the quitessential shitty guitar pedal was this beast

Yeah, I was SO skeptical, I have always though of ZOOM as a toy. I kept reading good stuff, by a few peeps that have a clue, and ton by TB ding dongs. I paid $170 for one that was owned for 2 weeks by someone paranoid about "tone suck", whatever, i got a channel looper if I need to use it.
The B3 is the most intuitive multi that I have evr used with that amount of features.

I was in a band back in Virginia Beach with a drummer that was a huge Danny Carey fan. It was around the time that Aenima was getting driven into the ground by local radio and I was already sick of Undertow. That drummer put Pushit on and had me put headphones. That gave me a new appreciation for the Awesomeness of Danny Carey. You really need to have headphones on to hear the single stroke rolls he is doing in the bridge part,...but it is something to behold. I started listening to Aenima regularly after that. When the only exposure to a record is what the radio plays while you are driving a local delivery truck you don't get to hear the actual good stuff on the album. 3rd Eye is the best track on Aenima.
Lateralus and 10,000 days haven't seen nearly as much rotation for me as Undertow and Aenima. My wife is a giant Tool fanboigirl. I definitely appreciate Tool,...it's good music,...it's better than most tripe that comes out today. They are hugely influential. They all have incredible tone completely across the board; but I've just heard it soooooo much that I can only take it in small doses. The fan element is strange to. While I've never been to a Tool show; I've heard reports that they draw a crowd that is a mixture of people who A) don't get it (jocks, meatheads and hessians) and B) Gets it too much (Fanbois and Flower of Life Hippie Weirdos). No in between.
I saw Puscifer play a month ago in PDX and it was the same kinda thing. Tool got mentioned in passing in the opening Audio Visual Presentation and a roar went through the crowd. I just rolled my eyes. This is Puscifer, not Tool. I like this music cause it's unique and good,...not because Maynard is involved. I just wondered if any of those people had bothered to listen to anything that wasn't aggro pissed off. I wondered if Maynard wasn't involved with that project,...if all those Tool Fanbois would think it was pussy music.
If I'm honest,...I prefer Puscifer over Tool.

the stupid merch also puts me off, the wrench-shaped-like-a johnson window stickers and all...it wasn't that clever of a 1.5-entendre in the first place, and flogging it doesn't improve it or make it any less Beavis and Butthead. i've never been the kind of person who listens to players for their technical prowess, so the "Danny Carey is a god" type thing doesn't interest me in and of itself. and listening to the posted track, the cool effects-to-actual content ratio is awfully content-low. i say it's prog Soundgarden with no tunes, and i say the hell with it. give me Superunknown.

of course, that doesn't mean that you aren't entitled to love it as you see fit...it's just an outlier opinion around here. don't take it personal or nothin'. i will give them that their music is much more intelligent than their presentation implies.

I always wondered if Tool was just an attempt to troll a bunch of people by somehow convincing tools to wear shirts labeling them as such.
