How low can these things go?

I'm thinking in getting one and selling my current bass, I just want to make sure I won't miss the "deepness" of a 4 string Bass.

I've read about people setting it up as a Baritone. Does that take any major adjustment, or is it just a matter of stringing it up with a set of Baritone strings?

That's the spirit. No idea on the baritone thing I'm afraid.

You can play the low notes like it was a bass and they're audible and clear, but it doesn't have the punch and attack of a 4 string. I couldn't replace a 4 string with it, but then I'm more of a bass than guitar player. You may well think it's good enough for what you want out of a bass.

I strung mine up as a baritone and liked it more, but the 30" scale was just slightly too big for me to play it like I liked so I sold it and I'm building a baritone. You might be more comfortable with that scale and I definitely preferred it to e-e tuning.

I didn't have to change much to do it. Just bari strings and some intonation work. Make sure you account for the extra scale length when you order strings.

Will the pack of Ernie Ball baritone strings fit? I just happen to still have a pack from the Baritone I decided not to build at the last minute

My Squier VI arrived today. I'll take a picture of it once I've layered it in stickers and put some better knobs on it. Not a fan of those puny little Jazz bass knobs. Gone for some big Boss style knobs instead, to get my giant hands around.

I'm surprised how good it was right outta the box. Reading this thread and other forums, everyone seems to immediately up the string gauge and swap out the bridge (or at least flip the bridge 180 degrees). I tuned it up, intonation is just about bang-on. I barred chords all over the board, they all sing. Gave it a few feisty strums, it all holds together and stays in tune. The low E was a bit buzzy, but I gave the saddle a tiiiny raise and now it's fine. I've jammed it for a good few hours today and it feels solid. I'll keep it all stock for the time being.

Having it just on the bridge pickup with the bass strangle turned on and into guitar amp distortion, it just sounds like a really grindy low-tuned guitar. Punchy and aggressive. Powerchords feel like being kicked in the neck. Totally awesome. Barre chords on the neck pickup with a touch of drive are just wonderful. Picking each note by just letting the pick fall down the strings lightly brushing past, magic tones. Or it can just sound like a regular old bass guitar I suppose.

Blown away by how versatile this thing is.

Cool. I want one tuned baritone like neonblack mentioned. White w/ white.

By this weekend I will have a Tele VI.

What are you guys doing for the buzz? Just got one for 120 bucks but the buzz on the g string especially is terrible

I put heavier strings on, got a staytrem bridge and raised the action a bit, it's great now.

I'm not saying all these things are necessary, just it's what I did to the guitar for a variety of reasons

I did all of this as well and it's so worth it. I also put a Duncan quarter pounder in the bridge and an alumitone in the neck. I have it set up for drop c# with a .110 low string and it's perfect.

What is the benefit of the Staytrem bridge? I've read it fixes intonation problems, but I'm not witnessing any with mine, but I'm also intending on keeping mine in E standard and keeping the string gauge roughly around the same.

You fail at Bass VI. Mine shits all over any old PBass, JBass, etc.

Really? It just feels all wrong to me. If I have my eyes closed it sounds pretty alright, like 75% to my other basses, but I can't play it like a bass because it's too tiny and weird. Doesn't have as much low end roundness there for me.

What kind of VI you got?
