Skip, great attitude, one that I will share with my children one day. To be honest, I kind of hope that like something different than rock, like jazz or classical. But I won't turn down a metalhead. ;)

Thanks Dan! I'm not trying to think of "I hope they like this... or I hope they like that...." as I want them to develop their own tastes, I want to introduce them to music but I do not want to dictate to them what they can or should listen to. I went through that as a teenager with my mother and it just pushed me further down the rabbit hole. I dont want to do that to my child.

You guys are all missing over the "my parents like it, it must be lame" section of childhood/adolescence.

Exactly. Whatever they like, I'm happy. Even if I don't have a child as passionate about life as I am, I'm still going to be happy.

That's maybe because their parents ARE lame. I can't imagine the kids of Brent Hinds saying, "My Dad is such a loser. All he does is play guitar to thousands of people every week." Maybe they'll think he's a nerd because he collects Star Wars merchandise, but they probably look up to his position and stature in the music community. Kids hate their parents because their mums and dads are receptionists and teachers. Nothing wrong with those positions, but few kids look up to them.

That's cause the earliest memories are the first to go.... and traumatic ones tend to stick around forever....

Totally.

I'm just picturing in say, fifteen years when you're all the proud parents of kids in Osmond Siblings Cover-bands.

I'm the last male of my bloodline on my paternal side (as far back as my grandfather, all family tree info past that is completely unknown) there's a few people out there that we believe are all part of the same family but theres no known info that concretes everything other then our extremely rare last name.

That's actually a pretty cool ideaology. My two stepkids dad raised them on death metal and grindcore (and "pirate metal" :picard: ) and its actually kind of noticeable how much of an effect it had on their personalities. I want to introduce my child mainly to artistic music, music that pushes the boundaries between entertainment and art. So that as they grow no matter which music they choose to listen to it will hopefully encourage thinking and feeling, not drinking / partying / womanizing. So they understand that music should be the soundtrack to the soul, not the party. I will always encourage them to listen tot he music they want to, but if they show interest in a certain genre no matter what it is I will always try and show them the best music of that genre. I would encourage them to listen to hip hop if thats what they like, but I'll be showing them the poets not the thugs.

Yeah man - I put a lot of pressure on myself about it especially since I can't conceive naturally. Now that there is a bun in the oven and it's baking correctly I'm all smiles anymore :!!!:

Pirate Metal lulz. Didn't even know that was a thing. And I love that approach and hope I'm the same way. I don't really care what they listen to or pursue as long as it's constructive and has artistic worth (even though it's ultra douchey for me to pass judgement on shit like that) - I'll just point them in the right direction when they express interest. I actually had a wake up call about how important just listening to music is to me not long ago - my youngest brother in law said that he doesn't intentionally listen to music. Ever. And I just about went insane because that was a possibility that never occurred to me. I hope this little guy/girl is into it as well.

Also, he/she will officially be attending their first concert tonight. Can't hear it yet, but should be able to feel it, which is just as important at a show. What show you might ask? Why, Lynyrd Skynyrd, of course. There is literally no chance this kid won't be white trash :animal:

This is hilarious. Congrat's Trey, that's awesome news! I could have saved you some time and just shipped you one of mine. My seven year old pisses me off to no end, but the kid is hooked on music playing both drums and guitars in his little band. I started all three of my boys on this.

That is rad - I'm totally going to play that for the kid. All the rock lullabies sound really cool to me since I will be able enjoy them as well.

new05002 wrote:well if any of ur kids are rockstar kids let me know, i can make some kool fuzz pedals for them. I made a customers soon a Kiss inspired pedal and he flipped out and was so pumped. I dig that!

That's awesome. I hope I have the chance to hit you up about that one day :!!!:

Definitely went through the 'I don't much care for my parents' stage, but I always liked their music. Hard not to like Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, and Cream though.
