i don't think i've been particularly influenced by the Beatles, Nirvana, or Metallica. or at least i've never tried to sound like any of them, and i'm not aware of anything in the music that i do that is audibly influenced by them.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

If someone says they're influenced by Metallica I'm going to expect the music they make to be different than if they'd said "The Beatles."

While i've never seen all three of those in the same ad, one of them at least shows up in abotu 90% of craigslist musicians ads. It's just so generic as to be useless.

Otherwise,...you'd have someone showing up to your Metallica Tribute Band audition with a Moptop haircut and a JagStang and I'm sorry but Moptops and JagStangs are totally not metal.

I'd hire that. Totally.

So maybe you should look for people with those influences...

Anyway, my mild irritation is that I have a headache, and I'm sleepy, but it's too early to sleep (I'm a shite nap taker, I'll be out for at least four hours if I crash).

Fucking everyone who's listened to music in the past 20 years was influenced by them. That's like saying "Guitarist available: plays guitar." It's fucking redundant.

/Rant

I totally agree for Nirvana. Seriously, 90% of musicians around Milwaukee are only aware of the worst kind of alt rock and list nirvana as their favorite band. It's how I judge if I can respect someone or not(cause I'm a prick like that). Not that Nirvana weren't really good, but if they're your favorite band, you probably have no idea of all the great stuff that came before them.

I find it dispicable when guys pee in the stall rather than pee next to another dude. Some people actually have to shit (i say as I type this on my phone while sitting in a stall for at least a minute after finishing shitting.

I'm on call tonight. All the fun of planning for a shift without the guarantee of hours! :omg:

Did some searching on the Local CL,.... holy shit people are totally citing those bands as influences. One of them is an actual tribute band (to whom you'd never guess).

I hardly ever peruse the CL musicians section,...too many flakes and weirdos (well,...my band united as a result of CL,...omit the flakes part).

Influences Schminfluences,...I've been influenced more by the piano teacher I had for 9 years than I've been by any famous (or not famous) band or musician.

I'm really sick of this crap. I know I've been spouting off about this a lot today, but I'm sick of being surrounded by these kinds of people who are completely unaware that other bands even exist. I mean, if you said you didn't like lightning bolt because of their lack of a concrete groove or consistent melody, I could except that because you at least get the point. Most people would first say, "Lightning who?" then just say, "Oh, this is crap. It's just noise. I'm going to listen to whatever generic metal/hardcore band or pop/hip hop artist I listen to." I just want people to attempt to be aware of things and understand the point before they dismiss it. You don't have to like it, just don't act like a chump (accept Death From Above 1979, you HAVE to like them ;) )

Gah I miss living in a big city SOOOOO MUUUUUUCH

No song's lyrics have ever been more relevant to me than this one:

Maybe I'm just losing my mind, but,

Someone's been driving by my house and honking for a few weeks now. It's always the same silver car, and it's always the same honk. I figured that it had nothing to do with me until earlier today, because I was in the driveway with my mom and they honked again. Then while I was walking home, a FEW BLOCKS from my house, THE SAME CAR RODE BY AND HONKED. I do not recognize this car.

I'm also getting worried that it has something to do with the restricted calls I've been getting that hangup after I talk. Last time, I waited to see if someone said something, heard background noise (tv?) and said "Hello?" and it hung up.

Probably unrelated things, but I can't help but wonder if it's some kind of crazy stalker who's building courage to kill me.
